I use whatever I have around at the moment. My Rav4 has a tool kit in a bag designed for a portable DVD player. Everything fits nicely, and it's padded a bit so the tools don't destroy whatever I throw them on top of. My Silverado kit is a Craftsman plastic box socket set, and a Dickies backpack...
Welcome Jeff.
Ah, the online introduction, a necessary evil in my opinion. I enjoy participating, but have never looked forward to that first post. I will say it's always nice to get some back story on someone you converse with. It's also nice to read something well written in a world where...
Never leave home without at least a get home bag. Most of the essentials are on my person everyday. I’m never more than 30 miles from my bug out bag. I think the two hobbies (if yo can call being prepared a hobby) go hand in hand really. Most principles and skills apply.
Welcome Jordan! Nice looking truck, and thanks for your service.
This place is a wealth of knowledge, and has a lot of people willing to help out. I'm sure you'll dig it.
Don't be afraid to grab some Ozark Trail stuff from Walmart man. There is a thread dedicated to that gear on here somewhere, and I've been using a lot of it for a long time. The 4 man dome tent I bought in 2002 for $40 is still holding up well, and waterproof.
Grab a sleeping bag, put a...
Rock what you have man, as others have said it's not about the rig. You really want to pinch some pennies? Skip amazon and build as much stuff as you can yourself. One trip to the hardware store and I built a killer awning for the side of our Outback for like $13 and a tarp I had laying around...
Welcome!
Trailer looks great, have any pics of the process or before and after? I've been thinking on building a small trailer our Subaru could tow. I haven't been to SC yet, but my parents moved to Charleston area last spring so it will be happening at some point soon. Any can't miss destinations?
Welcome Kermitt!
This place is pretty great, and there is a few threads on the Trail Guardian programs.
Living in WI we have a lot of hiking trails and non motorized outdoorsing, but not too much to do with a truck unfortunately. We have a few trips planned.
This is why I made the thread. I was probably overthinking things, which has been known to happen occasionally. I see some cheap plastic tubs in my future.
The weather is finally getting to human habitable levels here in northeast Wisconsin, so we are going to pre pack the Subie one of these...
We have mostly used paper plates on previous trips, but want to pack lighter, and maybe not use so many disposable products (though at least we could burn those) while we're at it.
We don't really have any good way to do dishes when we're in the Subaru. Our pop up has a sink, but the more we...
@472HemiGTX I do have a similar nylon I actually forgot about. I’ll have to see if I can DIY something.
@Wawa Skittletits I’ve been wearing Alien Gear since I started carrying. Unfortunately they do not make a Shape Shift option for the 226 yet. I just sent them a message to see if it’s coming...
The 80 is cool, and actually something I want to get in the next year or so, but man does that Jeep have some style. I can't wait to see where it goes as you build. Welcome to the forum from WI.
Never leave home without my Leatherman Wave. I've had it for over 20 years now. Originally got it when I was 12 to use for fishing (which I did nearly every day back then), and once I got out of high school I started carrying it on my belt 24/7. I have owned others, and have been impressed by...
I won't claim to know anything about Land Cruisers, but what I can tell you is it all depends on your plans. If you expect to bolt on a few parts and hit the trail I wouldn't. If you are planning on building a rig with mods (namely suspension) and hit every nut and bolt on the truck, it's...
After spending a few hours in the car, my pistol holster amd I start disagreeing about things. It’s mostly a one sided arguement though, it tends to be a bit stiff and unforgiving.
I’ve looked into a few options, but would like some real life opinions on something I can temporarily mount to...
Take a look thought some of the Subaru threads here, you may find some fun things to do you your Outback. We have a 2010 that is still stock, but we have a lot of plans for. Welcome to the forum, and good luck with the move!
