Where did you install your OB emblem?

Finally got mine on our Outback. Not the best pic, but I’m stoked to finally get it on there.

How do you find places to camp?

Bought Ultimate Campgrounds, and already used it to book a site for our trip in June. As much as I'd love to just hit the road and find a site, in Wisconsin that's not an easy feat. I'd like to get out west and be able to just roam where the wind takes us, but for now I'll take what I can get...

    Tool kit

Also, a decent crescent wrench or ratchet makes a great roadside hammer... I like dual purpose things, even if they weren't designed that way.

    Tool kit

@Funmobile nailed it. My kit for all my vehicles starts with: Crescent wrench combination wrenches (22pc set from harbor freight is like $15 and work for roadside repairs) 3/8 and 1/4 drive sockets (on holders from harbor cut as small as needed) Multiple sets of pliers, needlenose, standard...

What's needed for rear door jerry can holder/shelf

Not sure what others do, but I’ve been thinking of doing this to one of my vehicles. Inpersonally don’t trust body panels that much, I would definitely reinforce wih some plate steel inside the door. Interested to see what some others have done.

    Subaru Gurus

Just got our Mtn Roo stickers yesterday. Can’t wait to get out to an event.

New Ford Ranger arriving in early 2019

A good friend is a salesman for Ford. Not a ton of info yet, but the cliff notes are turbo 2.3, optional off road package, locking rear diff, a potential diesel model, and reasonably priced (4wd for around $30k, base around 25, speculation for now). I had a 97 2wd, manual 4 cyl ranger and it...

    Either genius or horrible idea

I mean you can make anything work if you want to, but personally, I would not mount anything to the hood. I spend a lot of time under there, and even just a hood falling on you sucks, now adding the weight of a wheel/tire/mount just seems like a recipe for disaster for me. Not saying it couldn’t...

    Subaru Gurus

I am a member of a few I think, but most of those forums don't seem to have the response rate, or personality that OB has. I do look there first when I have issues or questions, but I thought a place on this forum for us was worth a shot. A Crosstrek may very well be our next Subie, but we will...

    Subaru Gurus

I know there are a number of Subie enthusiasts here. But I haven't seen too much technical info, or insight on offroading with them. We have had our 2010 Outback 2.5i for about 6 years, and living in WI, have gotten it in some deep snow and slush, but haven't actually taken it off road much...

    Truck Cap?

I've had a few trucks without caps, and put one on my 99 Silverado last year. Picked it up for $50 used from a friend. I was nervous about how it would seal/stay. I put a lot of miles on for my day job, and haul sound equipment and music gear a lot, so watertight is important. Aside from a few...

looking at vehicles, how insane do I need to go for overlanding?

I'd say the Forester would be a good place to start. My family is doing our first overlanding trip in June in our 2010 Outback (though we've been car camping in parks for years). Fully stock, with good A/T tires. Once we do that, and maybe one other close range trip I may decide to do a small...

    stupid question from a newbie

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. Well that, and maybe asking a woman "when are you due?" unless she has already mentioned that she is pregnant!

How do you find places to camp?

@1Louder (love the name by the way) I just searched for that, I'm assuming it's the Ultimate US Public Campgrounds that's $4? Has UC, an RV and a flag in the app icon? Wouldn't be the first time I bought the wrong app...

Keeping gear warm in sub zero camping?

First of all, I hope WI treated you well aside from the subzero thing... You never get used to it btw. I've had a bit of luck with the warm cooler thing, not so much on trips, but working out of my truck for a few days and needing to keep some supplies from freezing. The other thing to try is...

    Bugs and lighting?

Red is great for low detection, and for night vision in small doses. Red light fatigues your eyes faster than anything else though. After reading some of this I'm trying to figure out how I can rig a removable LED RGB strip on the side of my car for camp light. This site is bad for my wallet...

    Camp stoves

We've been using this coleman grill for about 6 years now I think. We have 2 flat tops and 2 grill grates. It's a little big, but it's nice to have options. Now on our upcoming trip (will be our first "overlanding" trip) we will probably leave this one at home and grab a $50 coleman 2 burner...

How do you find places to camp?

I'm also curious about this in other regions. My family has been camping in state parks and forests in Wisconsin for a few years, but we want to get a little more backwoods and spontaneous. Welcome Bogdan! I'm still pretty new here, and to overlanding, but there seems to be a lot of people...

    Subaru Owners Registry

Sadly the 2001 ate a rod bearing and is waiting to be sold as a parts car. Only had her 11 weeks. It was fun to have a manual Outback, but what can you do. Just got a new trans in the 2010, and we’re taking it on the Trans Wisconsin Trail in June.

    Wrenching on their own rigs?

Another good reason to have an understanding on how things work... We just got our 2010 Outback back from the dealer as I mentioned above. Well 4 days later I discover the CV axle they put in is bad. Just knowing what the part they replaced is and does was enough to diagnose it. I'm hoping they...
