i'm very excited to be a part of this community! I recently decided to build a over landing trailer as I thought it would be a great way for my family and me to get out and enjoy nature. I have had a real blast building my rig and while I still have a few things to finish up and i'm sure more than a few kinks to work out, that's most of the fun in my opinion. I'm also looking forward to being able to pull from the wealth of knowledge that is on this site. From the you tube videos I've watched regarding OB any question about over landing I could ever imagine will be able to be answered with no hesitation. My primary rig is a 92 wrangler, but depending on the distance and terrain i may also be pulling with my 01 F150. As of yet I don't really know where I can and can not use my rig, the SC recreation page doesn't mention anything about this style of camping or land that it is ok to drive over and camp. any advice or recommendations in SC,GA,NC would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome!

Trailer looks great, have any pics of the process or before and after? I've been thinking on building a small trailer our Subaru could tow. I haven't been to SC yet, but my parents moved to Charleston area last spring so it will be happening at some point soon. Any can't miss destinations?

thank you! it's what i was able to cobble together with what i had around the shop and a couple of amazon orders with some facebook marketplace/craigslist-ing. I have a few pictures of the before (i've had the trailer siting outback for years) and during..kinda wish i'd recorded the build process as i had so much fun doing it..i'll post pics as soon as I get them uploaded from my phone. the M100 trailer i used as a base which is basically the same as the M416 does pull very well behind my 4 cylinder wrangler. Even with the extra weight of the rack, tent, gear and water i haven't noticed a difference in the way she pulls. I do highly recommend if you go the small military trailer route changing from the combat rims to newer style rims and tires...that's just my personal preference for ease of replacement and serviceability (and they can match your rig which is an added bonus!) I know some people see it as a sacrilege but it works for me. if you wanted to change the wheels, anything that fits a cj7 (and more than likely a cj5, but mine are from a cj7 so i'm certain they fit) are a direct bolt on as far as stud placement and center diameter. well the Charleston area is definitely one of the big high spots of the state in addition to the many national parks, definitely if you get the chance hit the blue ridge parkway.

I like your trailer, I actually just bought a M1101 trailer myself. I just bought a RTT, and planning on creating some sort of rack such as yours for it. Keep up the good work!

Nice trailer, i can't wait to get started on mine.
I've read and seen plenty of videos on OHV trails and parks in NC, VT, Va. Check out mountain state overland on YouTube and Vernontoverland.com
