  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    Flags when your camping

I have the small one. Zip tie it to the CB antenna. We were just talking this weekend about getting the medium sized one, in which case it would get strung up on the truck's roof rack as seen above most likely.

    Geocaching

I've never needed anything more fancy than my smart phone, with two apps: c:geo and GPS Status. c:geo is the geocaching app. GPS Status has a radar-like display, and can be launched directly from c:geo, showing you distance and direction to the cache.

    External Fuel Storage

Following the advice of some of the earlier posters, this is my set up now: 3 five gallon cans on the roof, and a shaker siphon to fill without having to haul them down. I'm hoping to upgrade to Rotopax next year.

Home Built Adventure Trailer out of Utility Bed Trailer

I've been considering going this route. Someone nearby has a utility bed similar to this just sitting in his field. I really want to go make him an offer and turn it into a trailer, but funds are limited at the moment.

How well or detailed do you plan your trips? route/timeline/campspot

I'm a big fan of map recon. I plan destinations and routes in Google Earth. Our trip next month is a good example. It was originally going to be a weekend trip, with two destinations. Then as I started looking into the area more, I started finding more places I wanted to see. Suddenly, our...

What do you use? Ham radio or CB radio?

I run a CB, since that is what most people in my area use for off-road. I also have a pair of FRS handhelds. If I go HAM, I'll likely go with something like the Boafeng,

    X-Bull Recovery Tracks...another inexpensive alternative

That surprises me. Everyone talks about the biggest drawback to the Maxsa boards is that they don't stack well, but I asked a guy to measure his for me recently, and they came in right about 4".

    That's Not a Knife...This is a Knife.

My newest knife. Custom made for me by a guy I work with, who is also the knife maker for Redroot Custom Blades. I made the sheath myself.
