As I look at this you could fashion some angle iron legs that rest in the carrier, angle iron cross braces nuts and bolts as state above and you are all set. Then flip it over when you use it as a table. No worries that way of the legs deploying as you roll down the road. Though it might need a...
Sounds like a nice run. Though that will be fast. If you get far enough north skip Vancouver and grab the ferry out of Port Angeles Wa and head over to Vancouver island. Even one night along the west coast of the island would be nice. There are some nice little places to camp right on the ocean.
I would not say cast iron though that is what most of my pots and pans are. They require being cared for so not for a rental. I use an MSR nesting set that I have had for 20+ years. It and a better frying pan, long hot dog roasting forks and a double cast iron sandwich toaster (for over the...
Just my 2 cents. My MSR has a permanent place in my kitchen box. I do not use it all the time cause I can often find potable water. But I always have it. I also keep a bottle of purification tablets as back up. I have seen what a bad set of unfiltered water can do so I am a little protective and...
Late to the conversation. Did you find one?
When I was in Michigan I paddles a late 90's Royalex Mad River Explorer. From what I have seen they made some major changes and are not the same boat anymore. I loved it and used it for everything from small lakes around TC to sections of The Jordan...
Was just looking at the Esse site and found them camp lore series. the camp lore CR2.5. It is what I think of as a small skinner. I had a Gerber that was a lot like it but lost out of my pack brown sheathes and wood handles get lost in leaf litter. Glad I went to look at the site. And the RB3...
I have the 10foot hose similar to that. I thought about the 11lb too but the 5 just fits everything better and lifts down off the roof easier. Though with the 10ft hose I may not need to always take it down.
The other important thing I have found is to look at the paper maps when you are planning and have route there as well. That way it is not foreign when you use it. I will second the Gazetteer. I used it in many trips to the UP when I was younger.
Just picked up a 5lb propane tank and 10 foot hose. Topped off the tank too. No more disposable tanks.
Now to work out where and how to fit it on the roof basket.
Has anyone had one out in heavy wind or rain? The quick pitch seems kind of cool but the fly and window design does not look to make it water tight in a windy rain. Though for the summer here looks nice.
I have been hoping to go with the less is more. I too remember driving in the back roads of Michigan at night without lights on being able to see better, especially full moon and winter nights.
Living where I do now the KC Apollo fog-lamp seem like a good choice, on a quick search I did not see...
