How do you find places to camp?

I use the Backroadmapbooks for here in Canada. I also search for camping on crown lands on the internet. I also talk to people in parking lots that have a rig that looks like they might have some good ideas. Usually with paper maps and landmarks to get around.

    Hello from SE Michigan

Welcome to the board. I spent most of my younger years in Western Michigan (GR). Now I am way west and a bit north. Then just keep going north cross the bridge. A little bit of everything. Though the Keweenaw was one of my favourite places to explore. The Upper Lower has gotten a bit more...

Condiments.. How and what do you pack?

I had not thought about Coconut oil. That is a great idea. Will test it out in cooking before next trip. Manteca leads me to thinking I need to make tortillas and sopes on the next trip, I already have the cast iron griddle. Tequila yes that is in there too, but usually in its original...

OB Approved Safe Encounters with Bears (Mammals in North America):

A good read. I live in an area with both active black bear and cougar. I have only seen one bear when I was not in a car. I was on my bike ride to work and we shared a bit of trail together. I stopped, got off my bike put it between us, let him know I was there, He looked back but kept...

    spices??

I have a set always in the kitchen box, salt, pepper, garlic powder, pepper flakes, and cinnamon all in original bottles. These get me through anything I need spur of the moment. But if I am planning a trip and a more extensive menu, I have a lock and lock that I put more spices in based on...

    Duluth Pack

Waxed cotton duluth #2 for canoe trips for me. But on the roof I am using different size drybags, and boxes though I have not worked it all out yet. I found wind driven rain got under the flaps of the Duluth packs no matter what. On another note, @Road, the Isle Royale pack is one I really...

    Analog dash compass

I keep thinking an analog compass on the dash would be a nice thing to have. Something a little more than the window mount thing my grandfather had in his old Buick. The big steel box it would be mounted in would cause some issues I would think. I am not sure what would work, if anything, but...

Condiments.. How and what do you pack?

I use a combination of repackaged and small store bottles. I always bring a bottle of Cholula and a bottle of Valentina, you see I live in a divided house. There are a variety of refillable resealable squeeze bottles that I had from backpacking, I use these for what ever the menu calls for...
