    Spot-X two way satellite messenger.

Thanks for this! Sounds like they started development a decade ago, stopped, started again and did not review. :D I was looking at this as it seemed to be what I would need, not just for overlanding but paddling and hiking. Now I think I will wait to see how it evolves.

Crossing the Border Into Mexico (ISO Tips and Advice)

Eric, A few more thoughts, though I am guessing some do not need to be told, but I feel is ok to repeat. Be friendly and be respectful and be alert. I have been in cities as varied as Ciudad Juarez to CDMX to Huatulco. I stand out as a non local everywhere pretty much but CDMX, but treating...

Crossing the Border Into Mexico (ISO Tips and Advice)

I cannot answer it all. I have been on the highway from Mexico City to Oaxaca Puebla Is along there. But my in-laws are from Mexico city and I was just along for the ride. How is your Spanish? You would find it very helpful. You might want to continue onto Oaxaca if you have time. One of...

    Plain vs Serrated knife

I have never found serrations useful on anything but the rescue knife on my pfd, where I do not care about how clean the slice is only that it goes through quickly. I look for usability, edge retention, reliability and ease of sharpening. I like a lanyard hole. a decent guard, I prefer...

Why did you go with your current vehicle?

I fell in love with them and had my first Jeep XJ in 97. Fresh off the line in Ohio. Forward to 2016 and it was time to get something that would allow, my wife son and I to get farther into the woods and explore where we live. Found an XJ with a rebuilt engine and little rust and all the issues...

What are Your Favorite Overland Recipes?

Just picked up some of the Yakisoba from Costco. Was pleasantly surprised. Not as good as the noodle shop down the road but really good and really easy. Made salmon in foil and added it the last time. Quick and tasty.

    Dual purpose battery.

That would be it. No room for a d cell much less a full size 12v. :)

    Dual purpose battery.

No info on the battery but as far as space is concerned I have seen some mods made to put a second battery in the little useless space on the passenger side in the back. It was on one of the cherokee forums. It required reworking the whole panel but seemed to be a better use of the space. I...

Your most rewarding campsite experience ever

There is a ledge on Lake Superior in Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore. The night had been a rough storm running in from the west had built intensity coming across the lake. Wind Rain a little thunder a little lightening. But the long hike had made me really tired so I slept through all but...

    Limited Space

Looks like your hood has the same paint job mine does. :) Thanks for the answer. I was wondering if they were strong enough to hold more than the visor clips.

    Keeping camera at hand

The Molle is a thought. Will need to think about it. I was thinking the tripod collar mount on the 80-200 2.8 would slide in too and then use a strap to secure it and the body in place. Ah so many interior things to play with. :) Thanks for the ideas.

    Limited Space

On a separate note. what did you mount the bracket for the radio to? \ Have you tried the garmin or the phone near the A pillar? I have been trying to fabricate a mount for the phone between the visors, where your radio is and run USB down to radio head unit. Now that I am back home for a...

    Keeping camera at hand

The peak design was one of the options I was thinking about. I need to mount it to the roof . The XJs do not have roll bars. Straight arca-swiss. I use an arcatech ball head. Looks like it is time to play with fabrication. I love your profile photo.

    Keeping camera at hand

Until the most recent trip is was not an issue. But my wife was sitting in my camera's seat and as usual my son was in the back with his own stuff all spread out. I drive an old jeep XJ and there is no good place I can keep my Nikon D7200 and lens that is not in everyone's way. I have gotten...

    Two burner stove

I use a Eureka 2 burner. I like that it connects to the jetboil stove. It fits a 10" cast iron and sauce pan. I want it to fit a larger Comal and the skillet it the only real complaint so far. I have decided to getteh 5lb tank after the last 2 weeks.

Jordan River Diversion Dam 23 June 18

First couple Saturdays 28 July or 4 Aug in the AM. We could all show up at the Esquimalt Lagoon too? No coffee there but maybe less congestion than a Timmie's on a Saturday morning. Could make an evening after work too.

Rigs and coffee sounds like a great starting point. I am out from 30 June - 22 July, headed to the mainland, but as soon as I am back I am in.
