Actually, I carried an adapter from 5x4.5" to 5x5.5" so my vehicle spare could be used on the trailer, but it just never sat right with me doing it that way.
Airing down really helps on washboard roads and to cushion the harshness of the trail. On trails with tons of big rocks, it helps traction. If traction is required that much, you better be in a group and have a winch and recovery equipment. Airing too far down without really being required...
I finished my gig in Arizona and I am moving back home to Colorado. Hope to have time to drop by and see you guys. I live three miles from the Expo in Loveland.
Just finished up converting the teardrop to run matching tires to the Jeep. It is on 35x12.5's as well. The XJ is running Ford pattern axles 5x5.5". Hope to post up some pix in a day or two.

As long as the tire rim diameter matches the rim size (20") you can run that rim, especially for a spare. The difference between a 275 and 285 tire is negligible.
Hope Pearl is open. I is normally only open for about a month or so, and many years never opens. As far as hard goes, Pearl is bumpy with tons of volley ball sized rocks, but would never call it hard. I would not hesitate to take my trailer over either. I have run both a dozen times or more...
