Seating a tire bead

Well lost the bead on the excursion after airing down to low couldn't get the bead to seal so I used some lotion to fill the gaps in the bead and it was able to take some air. Who would of thought a bottle of lotion would help seat the bead.

I've rinsed the bead with water to get the dirt out then reseated it. If your careful you don't get water in the tire. This was common, pre bead locks. Never tried lotion though.

I've used soapy water. In addition, you can put a ratchet strap around the circumference of the tire. As you tighten the strap it forces the beads out toward the rim which helps seat them.

Back on the farm we would put an M80 in the big tractor tires to pop them.
