Want to watch random videos about my rig/trips/etc?

Oh, I think I saw your video for OB on first Aid Kits, well done! I’m an OBGH and I’ve seen alarmingly innacurate presentations at Expos. Your video was definitely the best I’ve seen as it really pointed out the essentials & the true priorities. It was clear to me that it was done by a working...

US Southeast Off Market: 2018 Turtleback Expedition (Fully Optioned)

Yeah, I think everyone who watches you is a little worried about you given that selling your trailer seems drastic. Like many, I’ve met your family in person and can attest you guys are as decent & kind as one would expect. Best wishes!

    Is this one of us?

Well that certainly is a very remote area where you might need extra gas. Those are some lonely gas stations in Hanksville.

    Loud vehicles?

I’m guessing it might be an age thing.

    Oddball overlanding rigs!

I imagine you just need to go through the roof. While this seems drastic & I could understand your reservations, it’s happening with some frequency in 2010+ 4Runners as they have no forward mounting position for a full length rack. Outcomes have been good. That would probably be a good place to...

    Loud vehicles?

Well yeah, some engines are just going to be loud - no way around it.

    Is this one of us?

Yep, I’m always amazed at the rigs with multiple Jerry cans of fuel they probably don’t need (not so true in DV) & yet essentially no extra water. I can’t count the times I’ve needed to give people water.

    Loud vehicles?

Personally, I like a quiet exhaust. I’m not out there to hear my engine. The idiots I find barreling around blind corners on trail weren’t going to hear my exhaust - often it’s theirs that is deafening. And loud exhausts after dark are really annoying. To be fair, desert environments require a...

    Oddball overlanding rigs!

Exactly! The reality is the vast majority of places can be accessed simply with high clearance & especially with just about any form of 4WD. I’ve done all the major CO passes & explored a lot of country for decades with stock trucks, an Outback & cars.

    That’s Awesome!

    Synthetic wench rope vs steel

There are significant safety advantages to synthetic rope. That’s the reason it’s mandated for most competition events these days. Given the sophistication of developing & producing synthetic rope along with it’s weight & safety advantages, $100 more doesn’t seem unreasonable.

    X-Bull Recovery Tracks...another inexpensive alternative

Yeah, Cremona AB looks like you’re a little logistically challenged for a US pickup. If you head down to the Missoula area sometime I know someone there who might be able to be a shipping location. +$200 is crazy. Given that alot of that stuff comes from China into Vancouver it’s surprising...

    X-Bull Recovery Tracks...another inexpensive alternative

Currently there are several on eBay for less than $64 total!(black, blue & orange)

Olympic 4x4 Auction in Snohomish, WA (Greater Seattle Area)

Man, I see some people paying more for an item than you can get it at Amazon, not counting the 13% auction premium. On the other hand, if you have a Jeep that needs armor, there are some deals to be had.

    Camp Stove

That’s a great point. I had to add a front handle & rubber feet to counteract that on my Camp Chef

    Camp Stove

Those were my two finalists. We went with the Camp Chef because that’s what my wife liked but I preferred the storability of the Triton.

Does a good 4WD vehicle have to be expensive?

For what it’s worth, I ordered an ‘18 T4R OffRoad Premium exactly how I wanted it with KDSS & a sunroof and paid <$40K all in(sales tax, delivery, etc.). The used ones have crazy high resale but anybody paying over 40 is doing so because they are impatient.

Does a good 4WD vehicle have to be expensive?

Pre 2005 Nissan Pathfinders (R50) can cost $2-5,000, are incredibly reliable & can do alot more than people expect. I’m a part of that community along with the 5th Gen T4R community & they’re like night & day in who they attract. Lots of young newcomers in the R50 community & often kids who can...
