Portland, Bend, Oregon Coast in March

Tons of neat stuff near Bend such as Lava Tube caves but possibly not accessible due to snow in March. McMenamins is an entertaining stop there for lodging. Definitely hit the Deschutes Brewery Alehouse as well. OR Coast is always fantastic. Do search on OB because a bunch of us just gave alot...

Iam a happy man with my airlift1000 kit

AirLift Customer Service is top notch. I’ve had 2 different vehicles with the basic bag system only. Both developed a leak in one bag after 8-10yrs & ~100K miles. First vehicle I called, 2nd vehicle I emailed. Response both times, new pair shipped to me without hesitation. You get alot for your...

    Powerlift 3 Ton,All-in-One Bottle Jack

As an FYI, always put your spare (or your just removed wheel) under your frame if you are going to get underneath, probably no matter what else you’re using.

Thinking of purchasing a GX 470

We almost bought one last summer. This post is an EXCELLENT summary. I would also HIGHLY advise reading the IH8MUD Guide to buying a GX470. My initial foray demonstrated a wide variety in quality of used vehicles. This surprised me as the majority of recent vehicles my family have bought have...

    Camp Security Options?

I have those on my deck back in the woods. Never thought about them for the truck. Nice idea [emoji106]

    Overland Expo Sold!

Just as an FYI. My first exposure to this was NWOR on a day pass. I didn’t go for the vendors as I drive an old Nissan. Also, for the past 30 years I’ve generally tried to avoid other vehicles & campers & camped primitively in a tent with an essentially stock rig. However, I REALLY enjoyed the...

    US Northwest [PENDING SALE] Tacoma, WA - '06 Jeep XK - QD-II - $15k

Well, I was considering trying to entice my Mom as she isn’t really happy with her 4Runner & won’t stop reminiscing about her ‘06 WK which bit the bullet about 2 years ago when it dropped the #4 valve seat. She almost bought a Commander back when she bought the JGC. Yours has the same...

Josh, you’re down in Olympia right? Or was it Spanaway? My Mom is in town & I’m just thinking?

    Overland Expo Sold!

My experience with ExpoWest last year was definitely that it was a money making trade show. Some good deals to be had & always fun to see other rigs but I think I got more out of the camping & talking with other folks than I did out of the “show”. The different “experiences” available to those...

    Overland Bound Emblems!

Curious what people have done to protect their emblems? Ours looks like this after only 5 months & about 6-7,000 miles (& that’s without salt exposure). I have another set for another vehicle & I’m debating between putting some spray-on clear coat on it or just not putting it on at all. Our...

    Portland, OR overland rookie.

For what it’s worth, using your stock SUV to explore & go camping is “overlanding”. All the rest is embellishment, you already have the spirit & I think you’ll realize you’re more experienced than you thought. “Overlanding” has simply given a nice, easy label to what people have been doing for...

    Overland Expo Sold!

ExpoWest had some logistical hiccups as well this year so maybe an improvement there as well.

    Who's in the Region?

Great info! Thanks for posting! Really glad to hear your growing. NWOR is great, I’ve been wanting to hit BCOR & it will be interesting to see what differences you experience taking the PNW approach to the Rockies with RMOR.

Receiver hitch shackle mount or just the pin for use with soft shackles?

Yeah, I wouldn’t use a soft shackle for that. I was talking about a flat 2” strap. I’ve always used a receiver bow shackle but considered the pin an alternative. Never thought it would bend with a flat strap but I can see how that would be a mess.

    Camp Stove

We have the Camp Chef Everest but I love the apparent portability/storability of the Jet Boil. A version of this should solve your windscreen issues: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0757JJHN4?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title

Receiver hitch shackle mount or just the pin for use with soft shackles?

Excellent commentary. Just curious, Do you think this applies to a 2” strap. In that case the force would generally be distributed over the 2” length instead of just the center. I know that’s not the same as a hitch receiver, but it’s close. Your comment about bending just enough to have the pin...

FYI, XBull frequently sells them for ~$65 on eBay

    Camp Stove

Definitely smaller than the Camp Chef Everest. I wanted the Coleman Triton because it was easy for me to store in a Plano case-the Camp Chef is MUCH more of a pain to do so. My wife, however, loved the Camp Chef & it does get rave reviews by just about every outdoor reviewer.
