If you look here: https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/cleaning-and-protecting-an-emblem-on-a-rig.3843/page-2 A couple posts down there is a black dipped badge. I feel the dip is a bit too thick and takes out a lot of detail in this case. I am thinking of using clear plasti dip on...
I had the 100xl. No way it could handle a tent. Even just the bumpy trails were too much for it. Maybe if it had some aluminum reinforcement and maybe 6 clamps instead of 4. I'm glad I was able to sell it to someone that needed it.
Pros for the big one: powerful, large cooking area, has built in legs, and side tables.
Cons: too damn big and heavy
I do not have the second one yet. Have held one for a moment at the store. So far the pros of that are small and light easily packed. Cons, needs to be placed on a table. I'll...
Not under 500 by a long shot..... http://www.gobiracks.com/product/toyota-4runner-4g-stealth-no-sunroof-40-led-setup/
Maybe consider mounting the RTT to the standard load bars and purchase a smaller rack for the front of the cab? Something like this on the front...
Get the strongest one you can. The basic toppers will not hold up over time and will start to crack. I would not consider anything less than a topper rated for utility/contractor grade.
From my limited research, I found ARE to have the better strength models for overlanding.
We like 2 burner. That said, its easy for us with a large truck. We originally used a Camp Chef pro 60 https://www.campchef.com/stoves/14-cooking-systems/pro-60-deluxe-two-burner-stove.html . That stove is great for staying in one place for a long time or with a large group.
For our future...
I like good old dirt roads. I also like wider trails with some rocks thrown in that don't come near my frame. Muddy trails are great as long as there isn't a steep drop off any where haha. I just want to get into the woods and mountains and enjoy the drive along with nice views.
I don't mind...
I had a cap. It was nice at times but not many. Usually just got in the way. I now have a RCI bed rack sitting and waiting to get installed later this spring. I prefer the bed rack for its loading options and for running my RTT. My cap could not handle a RTT on the road let alone on the trail...
We are planning a trip to MT in July with a stop in the black hills. Had a member reach out and talk to us about the black hills. Chatted a bit. Left it open for discussing later about meeting up.
I would say, once you have your basic rout planned, reach out and just say hey, by the way, I'm...
Only one time was it a sort of emergency situation. Super storm Sandy. There was no gas anywhere. Any place left with it couldnt pump. Mobs all over and people getting stabbed at stations. I had to still respond to work, comes with the job. I had 10 gals of gas stored away. Used all of it. We...
Buying the rooftop tent triggered the next step. We decided to start planning a drive from NJ to MT camping our way across and back instead of flying. The tent was cheaper than 2 round trip tickets so it already paid for itself.
While at the VT overland rally I learned that the cap was not...
Next up was getting more overland focused. A CVT Mt. Rainier came available 15 minutes from me. CVT wanted to sell it cheep instead of shipping it back to them. I snagged it.
Next came my fog lights. I ordered the Rigid DOT fog lights back at the trucktober fest. The lights are directional, the mounts ADD made for them placed them sideways. That was no good. So I made a bracket to mount them.
Now they work great!
