I think the excursion and Suburban make excellent overland rigs. I have a 2001 K2500 Suburban with the 8.1 4L80E 4:10 gears and G80 locker. I can't imagine overlanding anything else. I just can't figure out these tent things people keep talking about?? Lol

How to make a killer fire kit

Great kit! I also have a second Altoid tin with char cloth and cedar bark strips along with pine pitch when I can find it. There are several ewetoob videos on how to make char cloth. My favorite is from Brooke Whipple aka Girl in the woods.

Full size overlanding pros vs cons.

I went through a similar thought process one time. I had a 1979 k2500 suburban. I put a 427 in it that I had sitting in the corner of the garage, SM465, 205. I drove it for several years before I got a great offer on the 427 from a corvette restorer. I sold the engine a set the rest behind the...

Has anyone here built a truck bed trailer for overlanding ? I built one from a a 1969 Chevy truck. It is used as a water hauler. We live in a class A motorhome in the mountains of north Idaho full time. I have 4 plastic food grade barrels laid horizontal in the trailer. The first 3 are for...

We bought a second vehicle today, so I should be able to start improving the Suburban. We picked up a 2004 S10 blazer that's just over 200,000 miles and it's almost good as new. 1st owner was a local fire department as Chief's vehicle. 2nd owner received it as a wedding gift and drove it less...

Why ham radio vs cb radio??

What are the advantages of having a ham radio and a cb radio or instead of cb?? I already have a cb in my suburban. It's a Uniden 787 with a .....hhmmm...I forget if it's a k30 or k40 antenna . It worked well back home in Michigan, but here in the mountains of north Idaho. ....not so much.

Looking at a new used rig tomorrow!

That thing was photo shopped a lot! Leaking tons of oil, rusted through in a few areas. All four doors have been replaced, and the smell of transmission fluid would scare the hell outta Smoky Bear! We passed on it and bought 2004 s10 blazer. It's right at 200,000 miles but it's like new inside...
