I have found a few old homes and barns around our area of the north Rockies. Didn't find anything to unusual.
Now that I am retired I want to head to the southwest and see what I can come up with from tailings piles and washes.
It's really no worse than the 454 on gas. The thing I like most about it is the torque. Our driveway is a 19% grade mile and gravel. Going up the driveway I never go over 1500rpm. It's rated to pull 12,000 pounds and I know I have pulled a lot more than that. We pulled a 30+ foot trailer with...

I would pick the pickup twer it me.
Built a bit heavier for such work. Parts for them just about grow on trees.

Great start, I like the jack relocation idea. The jack space on my 01 k2500 suburban is big enough for a bag of tire chains to fit in and still have the jack mounted.
I watched a youtube video where a young couple took a Z71 suburban and gutted it behind the front seats. They built a frame to...
Looks great! I have played with the idea of a dedicated overland rig but have decided to stick with my fullsize Chevy. I'm not likely to hit many trails that are size restrictive so my tank should not be an issue. Plus it's nice having it around as a winch point /rig.
The worst part (for me) of cranking the keys up it drastically increases oversteer. I am up in the Rockies and the roads around here are like spaghetti . If you miss a corner due to oversteer you would hit from a 10 ft drop up to 8~900 ft.
I turned my keys back down and started looking at proper...
