I chewed on the ST Maxx too when I got mine, but here in Texas, I do more time on the highways than I want to, so I opted for the AT instead. Cooper is doing good things across the board, you can do worse for sure.
Oh, to be able to have more than one set of tires! My STT's have probably done 30k highway miles, and are wearing well but all terrain would have been the sensible option!

This thread just totally cracked me up. If you go back and read the posts, its great.

"Im running the BKM XX in a 315/95/22, and its hands down the best tire I've ever had. It cost more than the BFG/Falken/Hankook/etc, I find its a little loud, and it took 10MPG off my mileage, but its definitely the best tire I've ever had. I wouldnt buy it again, but its the best tire I ever had"

Just got BFG KO2 and by far the best tire I have owned! Road manners are awesome and handles gravel and mud very well. Can't wait to hit the trail soon and really test them.

I ran a set of Duratracs on my jeep and currently have a set on my H3 because I really liked their performance. The tires are pretty quiet on the road. I have put them to use in sand, mud and snow and they performed flawlessly. It's nice because they are pinned for studs if your state allows them. Plus they have the extra traction layer in the groves. They are a little soft but they still have a decent lifespan for being a more hybrid at/mt tire.

I had those on my Jeep before I got the KO2. Even at low tread life I had a great time in mud and snow. I was super surprised!

I've been through a couple of sets of Duratracs on my Jeep, I've had zero issues and right now have about 50k on the current set. I switched away from BFG AT KO's awhile back due to their lack of rain and snow performance, and I also wanted something a little more aggressive without going to a "mud" tire.
The new K02's are enticing but I hear they run slightly smaller then the Duratracs. I run a 285/70 17 and I am debating on going up to a 315 to gain a little more clearance. Totally on the fence though, may just stick with the Duratracs in the same size. Bigger tires adds weight and really don't want to get any worse mileage. Still, I guess it's good to have so many options!

I figure I'll add my .02!

What I've run before:
33" nitto terra grapplers
33" cooper discoverer atp
33" BFGs
35" Grabber red letters
35" Nitto Trail grapplers

currently running:
33" mastercraft courser Mxt
- while I don't have many miles on these, I will say that so far they're the best tire I've had. On road they're great, extremely smooth, road noise is comprable with the Cooper Atp's (almost non existent). Off road they're incredible so far, clean out easy, flex great over rock, walk through snow but ice is a different story however They have stud holes if you needed to stud them. Considering price and overall performance so far, these are my favorite! Plus they just look so good on the X
Glad to hear that about the MC MXT. I've been thinking about those as well for my Tundra. Mastercraft are made by Cooper, so you at least have that quality going behind them. Mastercraft are also extremely popular here in Indiana. I've yet to run their mud tires, but I've ran their A/Ts on a number of vehicle and have always been happy with their performance. Five years ago we have a major ice storm that shut the city down for a few days (except my place of employment...) and these A/Ts go me to work flawlessly in the ice storm.
  • I've ran 33" General Grabbers on my F150 and wasn't happy with the performance in the winter. They were awful in the snow and ice.
  • Currently running 31.5" Nitto Terra Grapplers on our 4Runner (stock tire) and so far the road performance is pleasing, though we only have a few hundred miles on them.
  • Currently running 32" Michelin LTX AT2s on Tundra (stock tire) and they are amazing as well. They dont have the aggressive look most are after, but overall performance in highway, dirt, gravel, mud, and snow have been phenomenal.
I'm looking at going to a 295/70R18 Cooper S/T Maxx or STT Pro before winter hits. The pricing on the Mastercraft MXT is pretty compelling though and it's basically a mix between the S/T Maxx and the STT Pro.

Yea when it comes to bang for your buck... I'm learning they're hard to beat, after 6k miles they show no wear at all and I've put them through almost every scenario and terrain I can think of. They're great. I run them around 35psi on street and they're perfect, air down to around 22-25 and they just bite on everything.

Couldn't be happier.

Well it's that time again, time to swap out the tires! I've been looking into the Toyo Open Country RT, anyone running a set on their rig? What are you running as your preferred tire?

BFG, KMs and KOs are world renowned for off road strength and on road wear. I've been running them for over 30 years on many different vehicles. I've never had a flat, I've never had an "off-road" tire failure, ever. If it works don't fix it I say, so I'll be on top of BFGs for life..

I run general grabber ATs, but I am tempted to move to cooper LTZ next. Grabbers have been good, particularly off road but I fancy trying something different and my fronts are getting close to needing replacing.

Waiting for my Cooper STT Pros to arrive. Friends all have KO2s. Who's right? Who the hell knows. Opinions. [emoji51]

Last set was Cooper AT/3's and they lasted over 60,000k.
