K7XPO | Brien | AZ | for FD this year. Last 3 years did outing with U of A radio club. Solo and may end up on sota summit. Will try CW only this year. Q: 12' ft ceilings and looking to hang hf antenna in shop. (?)
VA2EEK | Don | Canada | Hot sunny days in QE. Have a week to ramp up. Thinking of going mobile. 75/40/20/15/10 hustler resonators. But rules changed so may operate from home. Signal link to decode FT8, would like to hook up. Rules for ARRL field day are many. best to watch if new to FD the first time. Makes sense once you have seen it once or twice. Looking at deep cycle battery (marine rv) 500 cranking amps. Ideas for antenna - along roof line don't get legs too close together. Watch how feed line departs from antenna to avoid RF on coax. Had wire in attic (70') but bended. No sharp bends and watch feed lines. Look at antenna tuner for compromise antenna. Jealous of mt top operating.
KM6GWU | Dana | CA | Have not participated in FD. Listened to a conversation and might observe FD setup of a group. Studying for general exam. HF is down the road. Q: If I wanted to contact the net with radio, how?
KJ7AMR | Dana | NV | No FD this year. Haven't heard from the club. Thought for pilot license; am a pilot. Happiest days is buying and selling your plane. Fun thing to do but have to aware of cost.
WD6TED | Ted | CA | Going to summit of Santa Rosa peak (8k ft). Requires a little 4WD. Going with friend, 2nd vehicle. Bringing Honda gen. KX2, KXpa100 amp, sota equip. Antennas, 6m, 2m, 70cm, screwdriver ant. Friend will work phone and data, Ted to work CW. New anytone radio so will play with DMR simplex and Elk. Run 80' random wire in yard for main antenna. Connected to net over DMR a couple of weeks ago. Probably easiest way if you have a DMR radio to connect the net.
VK7VWK | Randall | Hobart Tasmania | Doing fine, weather been cool (winter). Don't have FD in Australia. Indoor ant is interesting but have metal roof.
KJ7AXS | Bob | AZ | Have not done FD yet, licensed a year or two. Have backup batt in ammo can getting setup to do similar.
K1CJM | Charles | NV | Mobile only. Will check out FD.
NZ1ON | James | CA | Net been on calendar - first check in. Been overlanding for a year and ham for many years. Outdoors for Fresno ARES using overlanding gear. Kids are all licensed as well.
W8ILL | Will | MI | Doing great. Outside working on antenna. Got it higher and will try it again tomorrow.
VK2DY | Robert | Australia | Cold day but sunny (55F). Might get down to freezing tonight. DMR network in Aus is on DMR+ (repeaters). Have to use a dongle to get into DMR network but works OK. For antennas, enjoy mag loop antennas. Fussy but are magic when they work. |

Don't do youtube? then you are welcome to discuss any TV, DVD or even a good book on the subject of Overlanding.

1 | w2JLD | ALSTAR Nothing heard throughout net.
2 | VA2EEK | DON | Quebec | Early days were in army reserves. Spent time doing weekend exercises on logging roads. Doing overnight trips and heading back to armory. Get up early to see nice sun rises and camaraderie. Wanting to get back to those things as he nears retirement with Tacoma. 2: Couple people mentioned not going camping but it's one of those primal and satisfying things. No one on the net tonight since everyone is out camping. Some friends have taken off camping and out doing multi-day fishing and canoe trips. Have to drive a couple hours to days to get to the wilderness so he's staying put and planning gear purchases. Looking to get out in the fall.
3 | KM4GHN | MITCH | Virginia | First overlanding (dirt trails in hills) 1967 Beetle with recap dirt tires. Front fender was bondo and duct-tape. 2: Would add on to 1967 to strip down to a dune-buggy. Very capable for what they were with the right tires. Toyota guy now, have been for several years.
4 | N7PHY | ED | Washington | When did we start calling it overlanding? Purchased brand new Samurai. Kidney buster! No suspension travel but took it everywhere. Tent, cooler and sleeping bags. 1st opportunity to put something in 4wd and explore. 2: Great to hear everyone's stories. Tell kids about the vehicles they bought in high school. Headed out for an adventure in Washington, Fox Peak near 6k feet. Setting up 11 elem 2m Yagi for CQWWVHF contest. FT8 and MSK144. Be pointed east.
5 | W8ILL | WILL | Michigan | 72 Ford pickup for off-road as a young man. 2: Back in the 80's, had 74-76 Jeep. Set for many years and traded Ford stepside pickup for it. Had trouble with carb, had for 2-3 years. Traded it off with carb problems for 84 Galaxy (Fairlane?)
6 | KF4YLM | JOSH | Virginia | 2: Just turned HT back on. Got called by work to deal with issues. Missed everything up to Will's Jeep carb issues. On top of Poor Mountain this evening, watching a thunderstorm to the east and looking for a comet.
7 | K7XPO | BRIEN | Arizona | First overland vehicle was a 10yr old 1987 Toyota Corolla Van-wagon 2wd. Took it everywhere. Lots of dirt roads. Lots of road tripping and camping. Could fold down seats and have about the size of queen bed and had a fridge/cooler console in it. Lot of simple camping. More recently using a 2016 JKU. Started using ground tent and hammocks so family of 5 had room to sleep. 2: Don reminded him that he used to spend a lot of time exploring the lake chains in Minnesota and Wisconsin in canoes with lots of gear. Dad, sister and self. He transitioned into touring in a sea kayak for multi-day trips. Looking to add sea kayak to add to overlanding rig for trips to other states. Be nice to have on board.
8 | VK7VWK | RANDALL | MARION BAY, TASMANIA | Out hiking, no comments.
9 | KN6DJM | JON | CALIFORNIA | 1st overlander was Ford Edge but using a 99 Pathfinder. Started with a small tent but upgraded to tent cabin. Family of 4. Continues to evolve. Started with Coleman cooler and upgraded to roto-mold cooler. 2: Nothing heard
10 | kb4vym | Clark | Arizona | Had a number of trucks in S. Fl. Enjoyed fiberglass dune buggy with 40hp Volkswagon that would go through mud easy where big trucks couldn't go. Had holes to let the water out. Went to Disney quite a bit in Coleman crank up trailer. One night trying to set up in storm, getting pelted with debris, and almost had it up by the time the storm passes. 2: Reiterate on the buggy, 1969 chassis bought from used car lot. Was main ride and had a great time in it. Faded purple with white top and Ford van seats like trampolines. Had street tires on it but wasn't hardly a place it wouldn't go. Sold it and the guy totaled it.
11 | nb9d | Neil | Maine | First off-road vehicle was a 1984 Ford Escort. Had a great time on the trails and going places where Jeeps only dared go. Vacuum line blew out and offroad guy helped get it going again. Used to camp on the mountain before they moved here. Got to camp one night and bunch of deer running around and startled him. Looking to get a tent to set up down by the brook. Updated QRZ page. 2: Have one vehicle they're gonna take the sawzall to and make a buggy. Been working on vehicle maintenance as well, got warwagon going again. 30/30/30 alternator, fuel pump and coil pack. Still needs brakes and power steering. Been using the "Armstrong steering". Was on the front page of paper, His mom recognized him and let him know. Doesn't thing he owns a vehicle without a beat up floor pan.
12 | VK2DY | Robert | Sydney, Australia | Beautiful day in the making. 15*C. Sky is blue. Feels spring approaching, senses spring is coming. Ski fields are operating full scale. Talking to folks out there and they say it looks like Canada. Closed border with Victoria because of COV spike. QLS has closed border as well, interstate travel is difficult in AUS at best and impossible at worst. Everyone will be staying within their states. Schools will reopen after 2 week winter break and begin second 1/2 of semester on Monday.
13 | ZL2RSA | SHAUN | New Zealand | from Wellington, NZ. Joined the wrong net on echolink. Had a good time exploring back roads and going to give truck a good wash later today.
14 | KN4YAL | MEGAN | North Carolina | Not much going on but has a move coming up that curtailed any trips for the summer/fall. Has a beater car without running wanting to put a CB radio or mobile system to stay in contact instead of relying on cellphone because phone doesn't always have coverage. Can be dangerous situation where she lives. |
