That image is going to haunt my dreams for the foreseeable future.
Did anyone get any killer pictures of the trip? I'm starting to look through mine now.
It was nice meeting you all, and I certainly had a great time! Much thanks to Michael and Corrie (and crew) for coordinating the whole thing. We really lucked out being able to camp at the lake, and I'd like to think we made the most of it.
Sincerely, Josh #1 (or was I #2, @jdunk ?)

So I will be heading up tomorrow night, after all. Although I probably won't be getting in until 8 PM or so. I'm not expecting to be able to find an open spot at Salmon la Sac, so if need be I'll move on to another campground or do some dispersed camping. Regardless, I'll plan on linking up with...
I'll also be there. Right now it looks like I'll be able to make it on Friday after all!....but not until later in the evening.
@Trixter404 Steve do you plan on camping with the group, or finding somewhere else? I'd like to camp with the group, obviously, but don't know if that would be...
This must be a common occurrence for them, as I watched members of the same ANA Kandak run over c-wire, and subsequently wrapping it around the axle...... twice in two days.
I also watched (from a distance) members of that same Kandak attempt to pull an IED out of the ground by grabbing it...
I won't be able to make it out Friday night, but I'm going to try joining you guys for camping Saturday night. I'll either do the Fortune Creek Trail, or Van Epps (an adjacent route) Saturday. Looking forward to hopefully meeting some of you!
I've been at JBLM for over a year now, and shamefully I've never made it up to Rainier. Make no mistake, I've been all over this state and Oregon, just not Rainier.
Looks like a fun trip!
Welcome! My brother has a '13 F-150 with a leveling kit on 35" ST Maxx tires and I love that thing. I'll have to show him your truck to talk him into getting a RTT.
Thanks! I've really come to enjoy the Xterra.
As an aside, I'm currently looking at Subarus (namely the Crosstrek) to replace my wife's VW GTI. I've loved the Crosstreks since they were debuted.
Myself, Trixter404, and another member of the NWXC, Matt, decided to make a try at the Fortune Creek Trail the weekend before last. Matt didn't have his X, as it was being shipped up to Alaska for one of his epic trips, but he did show up with his other trusty steed, a nicely sorted Disco.
We...
I'll be up there tomorrow night. Look for a gray Xterra with a Tepui RTT, ARB bumper, and snorkel.
If the visual cues aren't enough, just follow the smell of peppery breakfast burritos wafting on the cool mountain air.....
Awesome photos and updates.
I thought we were going to tell @Snowtrout that we made it all the way to the lake, and it was the most beautiful thing we had ever seen? Clouds parting, angels singing, scantily clad women rejoicing at our arrival, etc? You blew it.
