I always say, the most important accessory for offroad is what is between your ears. I grew up "overlanding" and exploring before 4wd was available or common and it rarely limited me. Now many of those trails are listed as 4wd and high clearance.
Looks familiar except I covered mine in Filon instead of aluminum. I like the side window. I went for dual doors since my wife likes to get up in the middle of the night and so do I.
Are you going to leave the aluminum raw or are you going to paint/polish it?
The height of the ones I wanted were well above $250 each. I fabricated them for maybe $30 each. I did all four in an afternoon. So I made all four for about $120 instead of over $1000 to purchase.
The threaded rod I used was 1/2" - 10 tpi
I might have to buy a copy. I have the map cd and love it. There is an article I want to look up about the couple that did the TransAM in an Amphicar that I would love to look at again. It was the seed of my want to Overland many decades ago.

Just because the cable and connector is the same does not mean the antenna will "work" If you learn the info in the test instead of doing a cram session, you will learn that antennas are very frequency specific. CB antennas are designed for 27mhz normally. While that is close to the 10 meter...
I have been "overlanding" for over 50 years by myself (pack horses/backpacking/4wd). I am always extremely prepared for just about anything. I have never been where I had to call for help and I have a habit of doing all the obscure trails in Colorado. I am not saying that I did not have to...
I spent decades technical climbing all over Colorado. Been up Longs Peak 28 times and only once was it a non technical route. Loved climbing it in the middle of the winter. That was 40 years ago.
