Yup, even without the front section of the Gobi rack, it still comes forward too much, so your sunrider function is gone. I bought the Jeep with the dual top group and built the hoist in my garage and had every intention of changing the tops back and forth. It was a hard day when I came to...
Thanks! You're exactly right, the rear light mounts don't give you the downward clearance with the out of the box light setups. If you wanted to mount lights there and use them in a downward manner - say to light up a tailgate cook area, you'd be hard pressed to do that. You'd have to rig up...
One last mod before MAOF. Added a rear 12v battery connection point from Genesis Offroad. Ran it back and brought it out the driver's side rear opposite the tailpipe. I'm not sure I'm going to keep it there as I don't like the idea of it getting submerged during water crossings, so I might...
Nice choice! That's what we're all here for, so let me know if you have any questions. I lost count of how many others have inspired me for my build and then I added my own flavor to it. Can't wait to see yours being built out.
I took the day off to get the JK ready for the Mid-Atlantic Overland Festival next week and added some new items and took some shots of her after a much-needed bath.
I decided that my previous location for mounting the MaxTrax wasn't going to work for stability and I didn't like them up there...
You could do both if you didn't mind the RTT having a little overhang on the back - or change the opening hinge from the side to open over the back. Here's an overhead shot of a CVT Mt. Shasta mounted on my Gobi rack. You can see it's clearly longer than it is wider when set up to open on...
Good call. I'll delete my previous thread so it doesn't confuse people. Given the new schedule, I vote that if the three of us can make it at noon we aim for that with rollout no later than 1pm or whenever we're all ready to go before that. That'll put us there between 1:30 and 2pm.
Just about getting that time... If you haven't seen it yet, here's a link to the latest schedule... I see three of us signed up on the sheet for a meet up and drive in group. Still time to join if you want to camp with the OBers.

They are Rotopax containers. There are 2 - 2 gallon gas and 1 -4 gallon gas and then 2 - 2 gallon water packs. Here's a better shot. The GC had a 3" OME lift, BGF A/Ts and I swapped the wheels from the 18" factory limited package for the 6 spoke 17" Commander rims. It was a great vehicle...
A few pics from a recent camping trip to Cape Henlopen State Park. In a few weeks, I'll put the full overland gear set on (jerry cans, Max Trax, limb risers) and head to MAOF. Fun fact, limb risers also make grab wet clothes hangers. Should get some decent shots on/offroad there. I'm curious...
From my research, I've found two main setups: Compact / portable and Large / permanent. With a JK like mine, there's not an option in my build for mounting something like 2 100W solid solar panels - something you'd see on top of an RV. That's not to say you can't pack them inside and deploy...
Today the Front Runner jerry can holders showed up. I planned for these to mount to the front insert portion of the Gobi Rack. This way I could remove not only the cans, but the entire rack portion with the can if I wanted to. They will also ride nicely in front of my RTT when the RTT is line...
