Just as an update from our side, we did decide to go with Hiker and an off road extreme 5x8 build. It will be color matched with our Jeep along with running the same rims and tires. It should be pretty slick. Our build will have the onboard water tank, climate right, electrical, dual screen...
Thanks. I think Brien (above) probably answered this better than I could mainly because I didn't wheel this JK until after the lift was put on. Even with the 2.5" lift now, all of the weight I've added still causes the rear to sag just slightly. So I have 1 inch spacers waiting to go in to...
We took a break from trip planning and rig building to take a much-needed trail ride at the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area in PA. Tossed together some footage.
Running 5100s. I run with a lot of weight and they feel a little softer than I'd like. If I had to do it over again I'd go adjustable, probably bite the bullet and go with a BP-51. But all that said, it's not that I'm unhappy with them, I just see what I'd "like" to have.
Thanks! Unfortunately, no I haven't weighed it and I'm probably a little afraid to. I do know that my 2.5" lift probably sits 1/2" lower all around just from mods. It's one of the main reasons we're having a trailer built to handle some of the direct weight. You aren't the first person to...
The rack is holding up fine. I abuse it terribly, so I have several spots where the coating has been scraped down to the bare metal. If you don't stay on top of it and get it painted quickly, it'll start rusting. But quality wise, it's great.
For those looking for a little larger option (also more costly), there's the ClimateRight for things like teardrops and trailers. Could be used for larger tents too. But now you're talking generator, serious inverter or shore power.
Point number 2 is key. There's no way I would put limb risers on a JKU WITHOUT having reinforced hood latches. The OEM parts would snap that plastic latch off and roll your hood back in a heartbeat. Personally, I've run into pushing branches up only to have them hit my awning and be pushed...
Luckily on my JK, they bolt to the hood latch clamps, so when you raise the hood, the risers go to. Nothing gets in the way. I don't notice them driving at all anymore. But I know many who run them from bumper bars. Some kits that you buy have quick detach options which make the process...
On this note, and I'm not attacking others' builds, I do often wonder when I see limb risers on a rig with a big old snorkel that sticks up above them with the "ram" air prefilter that turns it into a hook. I'm picturing a branch being lifted up by the riser, being hooked by the snorkel and...
Most of the time, I get asked "what are those Mad Max spikes mounted on the side for?" - referring to my MaxTrax that I have mounted vertically. I may or may not have told a kid once to be careful around them because they were poisonous. :)
I'm running a Gobi stealth rack bought through Trail Duty too. My experience has been much like yours. Trail Duty was helpful, but Gobi direct was worthless. It's as if they don't want to deal with the end user at all. I'm very hard on my rack and it gets scratched and dented a lot. I...
We've been looking for a good quality overlanding trailer at a decent price point, finding that most of your popular teardrops and utility trailers start at 15K and can just to 25-30K easily, which is kind of ridiculous. It is totally understandable why people build their own. However we don't...
