Depending on the severity and the circumstances I may go to different lengths to make a trail passable.
If its a main trail I will clean it for myself and others, chop trees, fill holes etc.
If its a side trail thats used purely for fun and doesnt lead to a campsite or anything I will take some...
Local knowledge is probably the best source of information but some other options may include an app called iOverlander which gets populated by users like ourselves where information can be provided such as camp spots, showers, gas etc..
Other options may include navigation apps such as Gaia or...
Interesting that its purple in those states. In Ontario (Canada) its red, and it symbolizes the same; "no trespassing" primarily for agricultural areas but also on larger plots of land where fences or constant signage would be impractical.
I like going solo when the terrain permits, next option is co pilot or having one other vehicle. Having two people provides the extra safety and the ability to split up tasks if need be.
Im planning to camp up there and so are most people that are coming to help from other groups.
Plan to be self sufficient in terms of food, water, shelter etc... but there will be many people around to help with other things like extra trash bags for clean up.
Swift Rapids Rd is a gravel, un-maintained rd that leads to the Swift Rapids. The road/trail takes you through crown land with trails, campsites and nature thats free and ours to enjoy. HOWEVER comma, there is a lot of trash and debris that people are leaving which makes the area look bad, is...
Running a trail clean up on June 16 at Swift Rapids Rd just north of Orillia.
10am start, going to be camping the night as well to make it more worthwhile for people driving a distance.
Clean up is being coordinated through a few groups so I hope to get a good turn out. I will be creating a...
Take a look at the 4Runner Canada or Ontario facebook page, it seems like I see vehicles posted there often. I think youll have a hard time finding an older 4runner within that price, I got my 2008 SR5 for over 10,0000... a few months ago.
Maybe even a similar year Xterra would be a good option...
What are the rules regarding lightbars and offroad lights where you are?
Where I am you cant have them lit while driving on highways (for obvious reasons) however theres always those idiots that have them on driving through town.
In some nearby provinces (Canada) you must have opaque covers on...
I am interested in this as well. I get that the more yellow light isnt as harsh for oncoming vehicles but If I am using light bars I am likely leading or solo.
Thats pretty awesome, pretty amazing that youre willing to volunteer for something like that. I havent been able to find a group similar to this near me but I have heard about a group called Overland First Responders which is more catered towards responding to stuck or trapped vehicles on the...
Really good suggestions here; if you plan to take it off I would follow these recommendations.
I definitely dont have the same level of humidity so I dont know the whole situation but I plan to leave my RTT on at all just so I can be ready for any spur of the moment trip. That and they are a...
Welcome to Overland bound, @Wabbit I was just thinking the same... got my membership for christmas of 2017 and now were seeing members in the mid 13000s. Some people might complain about seeing more people on the trail as a bad thing but if we can get more people that are enthusiastic about the...
Thats pretty impressive. I think the cooler condom makes a lot of sense and I think im going to be crafting one for my yeti cooler.
Thanks for the write up
My old chev colorado had leaf springs in the rear and my only downfall to it was having shitty shocks that leaked, took in water (somehow) and froze in a compressed position on me. Those potholes on the way home SUCKED.
If youre looking for people that have done long miles on leaf spring...
