I concur with Shizzy, 5.3Ls are plentiful, lots of options/accessories, and you wont confound anyone trying to work on it. Plus they are solid motors that run quite a long time if taken care of. If you really want more power, a 6.0 can be had for a little more and you can mate it to an HD...
I picked up a pair of vibram toe shoes for warm weather hiking a couple years ago, and they're the best gripping things I've worn. Makes sense that their winter boots would be up to par. Great timing as I need some cold weather boots!
I've kept everything for resale as well. I go through vehicles and trailers a lot, and having maintenance records is gold. but its a pain to dig through when trying to figure out when you did something, or where you bought a part.
after playing on their site, trying to figure the cheaper way to go (who doesnt have an extra storage bag/box?) I found the shipping went up ordering the peices vs. the kit. So for $3 more I got bag.
FYI, shipping is pretty bad. From WA to IL its $42!! I'm debating getting a jack locally, that drops $60 ($50 for the jack and $10 less shipping) Sears has 8 or 12 ton bottle jacks for $40, instead of 6 ton.
I've used a come-along (3 guys two winches) to pull a wrecked dodge onto a flat bed. That was miserable, and took forever. Not too different than being bogged with the extra resistance. I also had a hand winch on a trailer to operate the metal gate/ramp. I liked it so much I put a harbor...
A lift will get you A. room for bigger tires B. more articulation (travel) if you go suspension. If you just got a set of tires, go with armor and gear. Once you're used to those, you should know what kind/height lift you want.
I like it for the ATV carrying ability. I was thinking that if you dont leave the RTT on full time, but wanted full time coverage it would be a good option. But it would almost require putting in slides. I had a camper shell, but didn't like the cargo height restriction, and the visibility cut down.
if you're thinking you'd like to tour multiple continents here is some basic info on shipping a vehicle. And you can get custom quotes like most companies.

Amazing. Really well written. My family (wife, motherin-law, dachshund) and I did 2 years in a toy hauler camper, that all made sense. But we easily had 4 times the room you guys do!
