    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Went to Chattanooga to pick up a manual e30 driveline for a friend. Of course, as I pull away from the seller’s home and back onto the main highway the brake pedal drops to the floor. Pull into an abandoned gas station and see brake fluid collecting under the front driver’s side tire. I ask my...

    Land between lakes

LBL is great in January, though through the fall right into the early spring you have to keep in mind hunting seasons when picking campsites. It’s not a deal breaker I just plan a backup campsite in each state(the park straddles TN/KY line) for the trip. If I check in with the rangers and they...

    Storage Box on Roof Racks

Yes but if the rack can support bolting on boxes it allows you to get into them to grab things without having to un-strap/re-strap them.

    Storage Box on Roof Racks

I can have my boxes bolted in and loaded up inside 5 min, I just use a 1/4” electric impact and zip the bolts tight after sliding the empty boxes into the tracks. Then load them up as I check off what goes in. It’s almost all recovery gear and chairs so it goes in really quick as it’s organized.

Jerry Cans - Metal vs Plastic

No problem, I bought all three I liked to be sure the mounts I built would fit any of them in the future since it’s unclear what may be available in the future given the regulatory climate. The scepter water cans are the way to go for potable water if you don’t have a built in tank/system.

Jerry Cans - Metal vs Plastic

Every other can I’ve tried went in the rubbish bin, or was immediately posted back for sale locally. Including blitz, Rotopax, scepter US market “jerry cans”, eagle/justrite safety cans, and jegs race jugs.

Jerry Cans - Metal vs Plastic

The metal open and close tool free, and swell less in the sun when carrying fuel. I don’t love the spouts for either but both work equally well with a siphon from the roof to my fuel tank. The metal stack better if you’re storing them on a flat surface. The metal pour better into a LARGE in...

Best overland vehicle with 7 seats

Easiest to work on yourself is a Range Rover Classic, Defender, or Discovery 1 due to simple mechanicals and little required technology. Questionable if they are the best for your particular needs, but certainly the easiest to work on yourself.

    Tire Chains Newb...

At the speeds you run (or lack thereof) with chains equipped it should be no problem. I’ve always run matching chains for simplicity in putting them on and tensioning.

What's your MPG (fuel economy) on the road.

When she’s happy and reasonably loaded 16-17mpg. Recently had an ECT sensor fail and drop that to 13mpg for a tank! [emoji35]

Frame rotted out in several places

Not sure of other vehicles up there as most of who I had beers with were members from our Land Rover forum. I’m sure there are good examples somewhere up there. These trucks specifically are known for rusting in very particular locations if used frequently in snow. One of those locations being...

Recovery Tracks 1 Set or 2

I use them more often stacked for light bridging so I carry 4.

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Yep, the D1 has a steel bumper, and all the other bits are bolted or clipped to it to make it more aerodynamic\beautiful lol. Take off the spoiler, and trim the end caps and you’re left with a reasonably useful off road bumper. Today my floor mats showed up, not much work, and Land Rover is...

What is your preferred shelter? (Rooftop Tent vs Ground Tent vs Etc...)

I typically run a hammock and a tarp, no tent needed.

Lets talk keeping you coffee hot!

I just pour my pot right into two waiting yeti’s. Fills both cup holders, and the second cup is still acceptably hot when I get to it.

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Snapped a picture when the sun was in the right spot to illustrate how the panels actually reduce glare, similar to matte vinyl.

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

“Alpine windows” are what the upper windows tucked in the corners are referred to typically. At least in 21/23 window busses.(only other vehicles if had with them) I’ll get you a front bumper pic in the daylight tomorrow. The center of my bumper unbolted, the lower half was all plastic, all I...

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Both sunroof panels are inoperable and sealed with some kind of caulk the PO put on there. Alpine windows seals are fine compared to the rear side windows.
