With the diff locked it’s still sending half the torque to the front output shaft, so it’ll likely be a wash since the gear set in the front diff is still being turned by the axle shafts as well.
Milky fluid indicates water contamination, Black fluid is generally Molly grease working into the...
Well, I can’t work at the hospital with the gash in my thumb, so I gloved it up and buttoned the Rover up the best I could. Snugged up the bolts in the transfer case’s front output flange with the nuts and some spare washers to take up the slack, and I installed the roverware rear diff breather...
This weekend I took some time to camp with old friends, and of course took the disco since it was a euro car club camp out.
When I got home the evap purge canister was on the porch, so I put it in. Then I got the bright idea to start on rebuilding my driveshafts. Put the rover up on...
The full “evap leak” story-
The “evap leak” or OBD code p1448 has been a persistent yet intermittent PITA since I repaired the O2 wiring early in the month. Once this O2 wiring was repaired the vehicle’s computer had been able to properly control the fuel system once again. That triggered many...
Well it’s a ‘99 Land Rover with 160k, and I’ve dipped the rear end twice since buying it last month. New seals are already sitting with the new bearings in my toolbox atm waiting for my extended breather setup to arrive. I found water in the rear diff when I first drained it upon purchase as...
If you aren’t running anything needy fluidwise(Like fluid particular lockers or such) I typically run cheap fluid of the proper spec and change more often. It’s VERY rare I get 30k out of diff fluid in a 4x4 before I’ve had some water crossing or boat ramp possibly contaminate it. I’ve found...
Did a few little things, starting to work out what all will be where on the dash. Mounted my echo auto, and an ultra gauge. Built all the pages I want to monitor for the UG and set them to flip every 20 seconds.
Also found my evap leak while changing my transmission fluid.
Ended up touching up the one panel’s install where it had a bit of a gap.
Loving the RTV to mount them. It’s working better on the installed panels than the sample I tried. The key is that the excess simply rubs off of the front of the panel with a little friction. This allows you to get a...
Worked on adding some accessories after the solar installation.
First the cameras
Rear camera tucked under the third brake light.
Front camera tucked behind the mirror.
ARB remote temp monitor, mounted so co-pilot can monitor if desired.
I do have one, it’s in my storage shed ATM. I’m still drawing out wiring diagrams for accessories, some of which will be up there so I haven’t mounted it or the awning yet. Same reason I still don’t have a headliner actually.
I’m about 90% satisfied with the panel install. Learned a few things but not sure if I’ll bother remounting them since it’s mostly cosmetic.
Got the controller hooked up for now so I can start reviewing logs later this week.
Got the new water pump installed today along with a new pulley, belt, fan clutch, and overflow tank. Then filled her up with coolant and took her out for a test drive. All seems well amazing how much quieter the new “non-HD” fan clutch is.
Most recent issue I’ve had is finding coolant that was truly safe for brass, solder, copper, and aluminum for my truck. MANY of these newer formulations on the shelf for modern vehicles aren’t, and my local parts store didn’t stock concentrate of compatible fluid like I needed to get the freeze...
If it’s
Bulky, light, or dirty. It goes up top.
Recovery gear is dual purpose, if you get stuck in a mud hole or a water crossing it’s really handy to have it up there vs under everything else in back.
