    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Parts came in, can’t believe the spark plug wires were only $12, ended up being $135 for the whole tuneup including spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, and front O2 sensors.

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

The V8 requires head gaskets more frequently than some, but it’s not a terribly hard job compared to some I’ve done. Otherwise they require maintenance more frequently than most modern vehicles but it’s mostly pretty simple stuff.

Welcome, look forward to seeing you guys around!

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

The plugs are just copper NGKs iirc the factory champions were minimum order of 24 and I’m not that committed to one plug over another, just didn’t want to spend $30 on plugs atm. No distributor, and the coil packs are working well looking at their waveforms. The injectors on the other hand are...

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

This order was from rockauto.com they beat my wholesale price on bearings, plugs, and wires through our local parts suppliers. O2 sensors were about the same so I tossed them on the order as well.

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Got another order of parts placed over the weekend. New O2 sensors, plugs, plug wires, and bearings to do the rear.

Roof rack storage ideas...let's see them!

I prefer a platform without sides as I’ve found it more versatile hauling cargo, and less noisy when unloaded.

Machining up a handful of D-ring Hitch Shackle Mounts

I’ve had no issues with my factor 55 hitchlink, pulling vehicles or stumps out. I received it as a gift a few years back, and it generally isn’t in my receiver unless I’m using it. No reason to run around town with a rear shackle, that’s what my cheap Reese 2” ball is for. Keeping it and my...

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Busy weekend, but squeezed in an oil change and rear wiper change. Between my nephews birthday party and a Christmas party for a friend.

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

I’m specifically NOT talking ANY LR vs ANY Jeep. I’m talking about the two in the video YOU quoted. THAT LR and derivatives of IT are designed with parts interchangeability and sourcing that’s not of this decade. It’s built on purpose similar to my ‘74 Bronco’s Dana 44 rather than the jeeps’...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

Oddly enough, I’ve found somewhat opposite. While Jeep has moved like many modern manufacturers through the years to specialized components, those older defenders and the early discos were pretty serious in their design about using off the shelf parts wherever possible. For example when I needed...

Adding extra feet to a Rhino Rack Pioneer for better weight distribution?

Well you can most easily add feet anywhere you have a crossbar under the rack. It may or may not add any useful load as that depends on what the load is being limited by. On mine I’m planning on bumping from three crossbars being supported to four but they tie to the vehicle’s rain gutter rather...

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Well I intended to put all these parts on the day before I left for Ontario 6 weeks or so ago, but that was the day I injured my thumb in the shop working on my first project for the day(rebuilding the front driveshaft). After I got my hands clean, stopped the bleeding, and stitched my thumb up...

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Well took the truck for a test drive this morning and it’s WORLDs better under braking. Seems the damaged rotor had tons of runout(I was intending to check it but I had lent out my dial gauge), often pushing the pads back causing more pedal movement than necessary. One bolt holding the rotor...

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Found out through carfax the PO owned the truck for around 4 years and 16k miles total. The last “maintenance” he did before he parked it was the brakes, then it wouldn’t pass emissions so he couldn’t renew the tags and he stopped driving it. It had been sitting for over a year when I got it...

    Zoom lens for a Canon

B&H is great and reputable, as is KEH. Personally I would look at KEH for a good condition used lens. Lightly used can make your dollars on gear go much further.

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Between the loose caliper brackets and the loose rotor bolts, I made it a point to tear into the front hubs before my holiday travels and install the new rotors, seals, and bearings. Glad I did. I found the previous bearings had been overtightened and under lubricated. Looks like they were just...

I haven’t said too much about the new gig, didn’t want to jinx it. It’s quite the hiring process, but I’m now halfway through training to be a 911 dispatcher.

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Neither, I busted my finger knocking out that driveshaft before the road-trip to Canada and it’s just now fully healed up(but still quite sore). The axle and brake parts are still sitting here waiting for me to tear into them. I had found evidence of the PO’s brake job going south, and SHOULD...
