Inside the swivel one shot grease, inside the tube/pumpkin 90w or so, wheel hub bearings use any grease rated for disk brakes or hi temp, can use some high temp marine axle grease if you plan to submerge axles often.
The panels are Lensun model “LS-55FX2-KK-A-FBA” they are affixed to the hood with a bead of black RTV silicone and a few dots of black roofing tar in the center of each the panels. On my previous truck I used a more firm attachment in the center and the panels were damaged attempting to remove...
Have a pair mounted on the hood rated 55w x2 realistically run closer to 95w total most days. Run an arb fridge, my cameras, and a pair of blue sea usb charging outlets.
Wheel hubs on a D1/Defender(original) are outboard of the axle’s differential lubrication. If the outer axle seal in the tube which rides on the axle shaft fails the outer wheel bearing grease can be contaminated by it though more commonly it’s contaminated by submerging the axle in water.
I...
Pulled down the rear wheel hubs for cleaning/inspection/re-grease of the bearings. Looking great, new bearings have settled in nicely. One more thing ready for winter.
As a "project" land rover owner I'm happy to give my experience. The all aluminum V8 is high maintenance by modern standards, as is the running gear but doesn't require the expensive special tooling such as a Jaguar V8 or BMW V8s. Mine has been an absolute joy to work on with mechanical parts...
Sometimes it’s small things you notice that can make a vehicle more reliable. Got a rotate and balance last month, didn’t think anything about it until I tried to remove a wheel this afternoon. Turns out the shop I used had used a 12 point socket on an impact that deformed my lug nut covers. Not...
X2 catch up any and all maintenance. On a D2 I’d start with a complete cooling system overhaul, then shake out the entire driveline from transfer case, to driveshafts, to axles.
From what I’ve seen of Canadian Rovers be sure to treat rust prone areas before winter sets in with Krown or Fluid Film.
Today the rover chose a task for me, the high pressure PS hose gave up the ghost late the night before last. So I spent the morning installing a replacement and refilling the system.
Continuing the rear cargo modifications, today I mounted the first upper cargo mount. For now they will hold strollers upright to free up room in the rear from day to day. I planned the locations out very carefully to support using them for future cargo shelf/cargo net options in the rear.
The rack is a Big Sky Rack model “SB1” iirc.
The idea is to mount everything where I want it then remove all the stuff and reinstall insulation and a factory headliner with modifications as needed. Still have to wire radios, lights, and control hardware before that step.
Need to know more about the shift issue, was the engine running and the box warm? If so it can slide in and out of low range with remarkable ease if the cogs are aligned on the gears. Mine gives a touch more resistance when I have it locked, but that’s the nature of these transfer cases.
The...
