Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I'm partial to Landcruisers, solid axles. 60, 70, 80 series. The 80 series has proven to be the most comfortable and the most dependable of any Landcruiser available here in the states. I'm buttoning up some oil leaks now, but would not hestitate to take another 10,000 mile tour afterwards...
well yea, when you have that kind of user specific vehicle the cost per mile is irrelevant. I'm averaging 10,ooo miles a year just in "overlanding tours" and another 7 0r 8 thousand a year of daily driving. If thats the kind of driving one does figuring cost per mile on everything can save...
Easy Math for Tire Users.
set of 4 BFG KOs 285s 1,000 mounted & balanced. my last set was 985 and change.
60,000 miles, easy -- equals o.018 per mile. that's roughly less than 2 cents per mile.
I change tires every 50,000 miles and put the very good used ones on CL and easily bring 500 for...
Welcome to the community, I'm down here in Berks county. Bald Eagle State Forest is about the best that Pa has to offer as far as overlanding style off roading. There is simply way too much private land in Pa, period. Go on line, find the phone number of the DCNR/ranger station of any State...
BFG KOs. period. I tried KMs for a couple of sets but the KOs are more than enough for the places we go. Just enough for rock gardens, mud, dusty trails, snow light flooding, etc etc. The KMs were just a little too aggressive for our needs, and really didn't make all that much difference in...
Seems we have much in common— we too have been camping where most don’t even consider going.. nonetheless, I think my question, albeit unanswerable, is strangely worth pondering..
as an example, winch sales over the past couple of years has slid down right around 2% depending upon where you read it. As I ponder the question I'm thinking " all inclusive " if you have a vehicle capable of forest roads, a tent, or teardrop, and a stove of somekind, and you actually go out...
Hey Geoffrey Cook !! we are neighbors, welcome aboard !! Hey Chris,, I used to make deliveries in your town on my way up to Manchester, Concord, and more points north... Nice little town, but my gosh, the Boston Metro traffic there is horrible.
I have been trying to compile some reliable numbers on this topic and am finding it nearly impossible to get any information. Equipment and vehicle sales just do not give a good reflection of how many of us there actually are because a ton of guys, right around here where I live, have their...
OK, this is an interesting topic as everyone has their own successful or unsuccessful methods of finding just the right place... We have had great luck with the series of topo maps available from National Geographic and is always $10 well spent...
Hmmm, if memory serves me correct if you have 4:10 gears with the 30s and 35s that means you have the 2.5 four cylinder engine. Upgrading axles? If you are a finesse driver then your stock axles will outlast your jeep. as long as you don't go any larger than 31" tires.
If you're beatin on...
I have a small Engel which is our dedicated freezer. If I were going to get a large fridge/freeze for the trailer to replace the Yeti I'd go with an ARB for three reasons,,, #1 and most important, very low amp draw, #2 reputation, and #3 which most all reputable manufactures have these days...
I find local mom and pops that do the job for a reasonable price... I rattle canned the plastic cladding myself after my pro guy did the minor body work, then painted all the steel. The new color is close enough to the original champagne color so I didn't bother getting the door jambs done...
Here is a guy that teaches overlanding specific navigation skills. I'm sure he is familiar with map and compass navigation. I myself rely on paper and compass to keep a general idea of where we are at. http://bb4wa.com/ I enjoy Bill most of all because he keeps navigation techniques...
I feel your pain, I was born and raised on a flat farm in Ohio. Thankfully Teddy Roosevelt, with the influence of John Muir saw the wisdom in keeping much of the west wild..
It used to be time, even with 22 days of vacation, but now that I am retired I have all the time in the world, so right now, due to deductibles being so high for health insurance, money is the reason we aren't getting out this year. Next year beginning in Dec, we will start hitting the road...
adjustable shocks are great for controlling depression and rebound. I'm even thinking of getting some someday, but the price is a bit too salty, even for me. :)
