What About "Idiots" on Our Trails?

OK, I'm guilty of posting this up elsewhere in our forums. I should have posted it up here, as this issue greatly concerns me, and obviously many others as well. However I do have some reservations about, dare I say, political organizations, that may, or may not be, shooting themselves in the...

    Awning Mounting Location

I have mine mounted on the drivers side, (left). When we set up camp I point the rig south, deploy the solar panel and pull out the awning. In this manner we get the full benefit of shade all afternoon and full benefit of the suns energy for most of the day.

    Rednecks and litter/trash/rubbish

Great info and thanks for this post. One of the best reclamation projects I have ever witnessed was the formation of the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area, (AOAA) here in central Pennsylvania. The entire project was done with state and federal grant money (ie, tax dollars). The 6,500 acre...

What About "Idiots" on Our Trails?

I have run into the, "it's public land, I own it and I'll do what I want" attitude only one time. I quietly left the area, sure to take down license numbers, makes and models. I went back to camp, himmed and hawwed a bit and decided to take action, got in the rig and drove the 20 or so miles...

Need help with Dual Battery and Inverter setup

I bought the panel kit on line from a retailer selling Solar Cynergy. I upgraded the controller for an extra 20 bucks. As I recall the entire package was right around 175. Here is a brief outline of how I mounted it on our rack. I misspoke here earlier, it is in fact a 120 watt panel.

Need help with Dual Battery and Inverter setup

The yellow tops are probably a very good choice. At one time they were the best on the market for the money spent, but the quality did suffer for a few years after they were gobbled up by a much larger corporation. I think their quality may be as good now as it was in their early years. As far...

Let’s be honest; Roof Top Tent- Yay or Nay?

This is a great topic for anyone considering one or the other. At 65 and 62 years of age we don't relish the thought of getting up and down a ladder in the middle of the night, nor being cooped up in really adverse weather conditions. We also are basecamp people. Set up and either go...

    Rednecks and litter/trash/rubbish

))) Isn't that the truth? Wow,, And yes, conservatives, liberals, rednecks? It doesn't matter. A litterbug is just that. It cuts across all walks of life. We've had many a trail closed down here in Pa over the past few decades, not because of visitors to these areas but because of the locals...

    Otterbox unvarnished gear review.

Interesting and I'm sure that much of your statement may be true, however, the retail store that I purchased it from ignored the early on wear of the product, they simply informed me, "so sad, the warranty expires in one year", and went about replacing the worn screen for a nominal fee. Maybe...

    Otterbox unvarnished gear review.

Very true. I had forgotton about all the grime and dust that collected underneath the screen saver. After our trip of 2016 I had to take my phone to apple for a free cleaning.. BTW, I contacted Otterbox and they seem to want to send me a new one, even after the passage of time. Will I use it...

OK, got it, you've never really owned an otterbox then for more than a couple of years.

    Otterbox unvarnished gear review.

Hey, relax, I'm not "belittling" a product as you put it. I'm giving my review of a product that has failed to live up to it's name. If we all remain quiet when a product fails us then the manufacturer will have no reason to improve product. They have done the math. It costs them less money to...

    Otterbox unvarnished gear review.

I bought my new iphone 6 back in October of 2015 as a retirement gift to myself. I had done a lot of research and was convinced that the Defender Series of Otterbox case would keep my phone safe from the elements. The Defender Series defended nothing. I paid top shelf dollars for a cover that...

How do you find places to camp?

Good info for the techno geeks out there. Once off the grid however, I trust my good old fashioned paper maps and a compass.

OB Approved Safe Encounters with Bears (Mammals in North America):

Great write up from the OP. I've done a fair share of research on this and fortunately have only encountered 2 bears in our travels. One was a mother with 3 cubs. That was quite a site. The other time the bear thought he was hiding from us behind some low bushes. We just watched ome another...

Ah kind sir, but we all are, indeed, guests of this earth and by extension private or public lands. And, as good guests, we should treat our host with the deepest of respect.

    Solo Exploration to remote locations

Back in the mid 70's I spent nearly every weekend exploring the Mohave Desert in my 1966 slightly modified VW bug. I carried a tarp, a sleeping bag, dried food, a few gallons of water and of course, enough tools to repair any thing that may go wrong with the bug. These days, my wife and I go...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

I'm buttoning up the last of my major oil leaks. Last week the oil pump cover seal and front main seals, and now the valve cover gasket seal. After 286,000 miles this machine is looking great. The head was however rebuilt at 175k miles. ATTACH=full]52084[/ATTACH]
