I know more about overlanding Outbacks than Jeeps, unfortunately. In terms of the cargo space in the rear, the cargo in the Outback is more generous, considering it can, in some ways, be classified as a sport utility wagon. I know that the Outback has a shorter wheelbase compared to a JKU...
Just a slight update. I swapped out my old steel-made ladder for one that is aluminum. The aluminum one has more of a texture on the steps. The steel one weighed 17 whooping pounds whereas the aluminum one weighed 6 pounds.
Also, I celebrated 10 years with this wonderful car. I drove it...
I tried one of the local tire shops and they did ok but one of the front wheels was a bit on the maxed side out but otherwise, the alignment was within spec. But when I did my roadtrip back to Portland, Rallitek corrected the alignment to being nearly perfect, since they know all of the parts...
This was the car's location at Overland Expo Mtn West. I still have a good amount of headroom back there. Soon I might try to put a platform in there to see if it would work or not.
Let me check my schedule to see if I am free that day! I will probably know for sure after Overland Expo Mtn West but if I do not get too busy in the vendor's booth, I would know sooner.
This weekend, I got my car prepped to be at Overland Expo Mtn West. It has been fully detailed since it would be in the vendor area and got my camping gear down.
I will be heading out to Loveland on Thursday afternoon. For me, it is just a hour drive. I will be in the vendor area since my car will be on display during the weekend.
It has been awhile since I have posted anything about my vehicle due to things being rather quiet (weather has been nasty this summer) but I still have my Outback. It just completed an almost 3600-mile roundtrip back to Portland metro. While there, I visited my favorite offroad shop, Rallitek...
If one can see in the photo above (previous post), my Outback needed an alignment to fix the rear toe. The dealership managed to get it done but it is not perfect but within spec. Sometime this summer, I am thinking about heading back to where it was built and see the crew at Rallitek and see...
I have done several trails in Oregon, Washington, and in Colorado with that Subie. I know what it is capable of doing but I haven't fully pushed it. In terms of your question about my lift, that is actually 1.5" with an additional 0.4-0.5" in the rear.
Mine is a Subaru Outback that can do most moderate trails. If people would like to do the harder moderate trails, I do not want to stop them due to my vehicle. Here is a photo of my Outback when it did WABRD in 2021.
Very slight update. The new suspension is on the Outback, after trying to get the very old, dirty, and rusty suspension off. In terms of how it feels, it is stiff but not as stiff as some warned me about. This might be due to that I was used to the stiffness of the rear overload springs.
Just a bit of an update on the Outback. After a recent overlanding trip near Colorado Springs, I could feel that my suspension is a bit on the tired side but nothing is leaking. Current suspension setup: fronts-KYB struts and OEM springs and the rear-original struts with Rallitek overload...
Congrats on your new Outback. I have owned Subarus since 1999. I am currently on my 3rd and 5th Subarus. My overlanding one is a 2014 Outback which has been modded for overlanding with 3 skid plates which have protected important components underneath the car. Mine is lifted 1.5" which...
Before I started doing all of these upgrades, my gas mileage averaged 25-26 mpg. Nowadays, I am getting 21-23 mpg. Sometimes I can get it back to 25 mpg when I am just cruising on the highway for long distances. So the gas mileage did drop a bit but it is not super terrible. My Outback...
Awww...thank you. Very nice 2017
My sleep setup is pretty simple which is just a Luno air mattress, USB powered fans, a bag for my shoes (attaches to the car's body), screens, pockets, curtains, and my Bluetti portable battery. It has a bit of a downfall though...storage. I always have to...
