Not going to be as spectacular as some, just a 2 day one night trip with my son.(age 7)
Starting in Rothrock and headed to Bald Eagle where we we will spend the night.
Vehicle will be a 2015 RAM 2500 Tradesman. Camping in a ground tent.
Can not wait to go.
Got the permit and the gas in the...
And then you can join in the 2wd discussions.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised just how many many places you can still go.
Can not wait to see the first trip
Glad you and your nephew are ok.
Really sucks you lost that overlander...but you got a good spirit getting right to work on that old GMC.
Looks good already.
Good luck.
Used the email service to set up the trip.
Very easy and quick. Just sent an email to the appropriate address for the State Forest
fd05@pa.gov is Rothrock
fd07@pa.gov is Bald Eagle
I included the sites I wanted. They replied with the sites available.
I copied the requested information to my...
I still have not done any mods. Still waiting for my current tires to wear out.
I am hoping to get tires soon...but definitely before winter.
I really can not think of any mods I need to do.
That said I was gettin the itch to get a newer truck. But, I honestly like This truck too much.
I am...
We just got back from a travel trailer trip.
My son and I are reserved for a motorized campsite this Saturday.
He has camped his entire life with the travel trailer and campgrounds.
This will be his first full wilderness experience and in a tent.
He is super excited.
Got the campsite approval about 5 mins after I sent the request.
We are camping in Bald Eagle.
The campsite I settled on was a little bit further into BESF than I wanted. But it atleast was one we liked. Probably about 10 down the list of favorites.
We will be starting in Rothrock on Colerain...
Well made 2 decisions. Rothrock is full and I sent the RAM info to Bald Eagle.
The sites I wanted at BESF were taken so i sent back 3 out of the 14 they had available. Should know in the morning.
Can not wait to go.
Rothrock is full this weekend. Bald Eagle still has about 12 sites open. But none of the ones we wanted.
Have decided on the RAM. As that was the info I sent in.
looks like we will be spending the night in Bald Eagle. Rothrock is full. The sites I requested in bald eagle were also taken.
I just sent back with the 3 available I would like. Should know in the morning which one it will be.
Also there is a pretty large elevation change. In October you could be fairly warm at 1000ft and have snow at 2200 ft.
August will probably see lows stay in the 60s. September we could have flurries and October could be a layer of snow.
The great thing about Central Pa is you can have all 4 seasons in one day
Last year...we had barely any HOT days. This year we have had too much heat.
At any point we could get into the 50s. This year I am going to guess very few of them, if any in August.
September then temps usually drop...
We did get out to the 4x4 Jamboree.
It was a great time. There wasnt too many venders there. I did see a few overlanding setups. But we were trying to get a good seat for the show...so I didnt get many pics.
Til next year
My son and I will be exploring the forest this weekend. Going to scout out site #6 and 7.
Hoping to camp for the night. Got an email sent to see what is available.
Can not wait to be off the beaten path.
We will be in the forest this weekend. Not making a plan...but mainly the southern section. Will be making the connection to Bald Eagle through Rothrock.
Email is sent. Waiting for a reply and then can go onto a better plan.
My goals this trip is to test out our new tent and see how my son takes to know amenities or light.
1st in the explore list is to hit site #6 and #7. We haven't seen them yet. If we stay in Rothrock, this will be first on...
