Differences Between MGRS and USNG
MGRS and USNG 100,000-meter Square Identifications are Different when Used with the NAD 27 Datum
Both the MGRS and USNG systems default to the WGS84 datum. They differ when used with the NAD 27 Datum. This is particularly important to users within the...
None that I know of. The laws are currently changing here in Michigan to be much more inclusive to off road vehicles. I’d wait for that to shake out, current legal ORV trails for trucks/suvs are slim pickings.
There are TONs of trails in the Manistee Forest/Weston/Cadillac area, you can...
Part of the change from UTM to USNG is communicating a grid to partnering agencies or air assets. It’s much harder to mess up USNG over the radio which makes sense. Using UTM there have been many examples of air assets going to the wrong location causing serious issues in rescue timelines. I...
I restore vintage axes and hatchets. Currently you can’t beat Gransfors, Hults, or Ox head. They are the closest to old steel. Attached is my favorite, it’s a 1.5 lb Plumb head on a handmade 19” hickory handle I’m guessing by the markings it’s late 60’s. I use this for hiking and...
I’m not bagging on the military land nav but it’s not the way to go for civilians. The mil uses MGRS as a grid system that isn’t used outside of the military. GPS systems and map providers don’t use mgrs for the most part and rescuers will expect another system.
CONUS the national standard...

Close! They are super cheap computers that are very small form factor and open source. They are used to make all kinds of fun projects with even basic computer knowledge.
I’ve had 4 truck beds done and the inside tub of my Jeep LJ and multiple bumpers.
The stuff holds dirt and weighs a lot, I would never do the exterior body myself.
I put stuff behind the dash whenever possible. I like this product and use it instead of loom inside the cab and also at home.
It expands ALOT to fit multiple cables though it. I have 10 charging cables running through this size at home for a charging station for my SAR comms and GPS gear.
Totally depends on the campsite and my neighbors. Light pollution while camping is a thing.
Sometimes I use my 25 year old Coleman’s duel fuel lantern, other times my goal zero light a life set up with up to 4 lamps. If it’s the summer it’s pretty bright late at night so it’s just an led...
That’s an awesome tent, you are going to love it! SD puts a lot of small details in their tents and not a lot of useless marketing garbage. Remember to seam seal when you get it!
There is a trick to the back thing, try laying diagonally in the hammock, this makes it flat and believe it or not the right way to lay in them.
As for the top quilts, they have been used by ultra lightweight back packers for years and finally people are figuring out that normal sleeping bags...
I love Sierra Designs tents. I have a tensigrity which is the precursor to this design and love it for the weight. Being a single wall will get some condensation however.

Pick up a us army sleep system off eBay. Usually around $100 and includes a goretex bivy bag, outer and inner bag. Hands down the best system for the money.
Give hammock top quilts a look. I use extra wide, extra long sewn end top quilts from hammockgear. They are awesome. I like to flop around at night. I have a 40 degree and a 20 degree. I’m going to pick up an over stuffed 0 degree as well.
