Yeah man. Full size trucks (what we call them here) have gotten very expensive. They have also gotten very large too! Too large/heavy for where I like to travel and how I like to drive. Thankfully we have "mid-size" trucks like my Canyon, Tacomas (Hilux), Ranger and Frontier (Navara).
Looking...
Depending on where you plan on exploring traction is usually the biggest hurdle with 2wd. Great tires and a rear locker will help immensely. In my area there are usually plenty of trees to winch off of so knowing what I know now I will always have a winch on my rigs. That being said, I like to...
Less power and more range or simple power settings would be great. Do it on a capable platform that doesn't require much more than larger tires and it should sell. Assuming the pricing isn't in Rivian territory. $100k off road vehicles are kinda dumb IMO but....
IMO the biggest issue with lifting an IFS truck using spacers or coilovers only is the reduction in suspension droop (down travel). Everyone wants a 3" lift but most don't consider what that does to suspension travel. There is no free lunch here. If you have 6" of suspension travel available...
You can hook them up to run off your cargo light switch. Does your truck have bed lights as an oem option? Mine does so the harness was already there despite not having the option on my truck. That's how I set mine up.
I used cheap LED bedlight strips then later added some pods.
Yup. Definitely a soil your shorts moment. Couldn't risk him getting out of the rig or letting off the brake. With only 1 winch hooked up he slid even further towards the edge. It was one of those situations where you can feel panic welling up but you jump into action instead. Gotta take photos...
You'll need about 2" of lift and a cab mount chop (CMC) plus a little trimming of the inner fender well plastic as nedded. You may be about to avoid a CMC with enough caster added to you alignment but generally speaking most people that take their Tacomas offroad end up doing it. Assuming you do...
ADD is making bumpers. I'd check out Stage 3 Motorsports. They do a lot of Ford stuff so they'll likely carry stuff for the Ranger as quickly as parts are created.
