On the packed part of the trail there was about 1.5' to 2' of snow with another 1.5' on either side. We both run 285/70/17 (33") and have around 9" to 10" of clearance depending on where you measure. I have a approx. 3" of lift on my truck. Snow conditions varied as temps changed from 37F to 20F...
I spent the last 2 days snow wheeling and I am amazed at how well the Patagonias performed. As long as I didn't break though and high center I had no traction issues. My buddy has Ridge Grapplers with 50k miles and 10/32nds tread left and there were not so great despite his rig being well built.
Glad you got it cleaned up without finding a bunch of other problems. My buddy @tjZ06 was also tearing into his Heep but kept uncovering hidden issues that need to be addressed. :(
Any of those tires will work ok in snow with smart driving. I drive in all kinds of extreme conditions except deep mud and I'd run any of those tires. The Wildpeak served me well but the lack of a 3ply sidewall and the need for more rock crawling grip moved me to the Patagonia. The X-AT and G003...
Being an admin on MTBR I've heard it all. I decided to give one a try for a long-term test and well, I sold my main bike and have just been riding the Wire Peak. :)
There are also Facebook groups focused on off-road recovery assistance from other members. OB has something as well. It's a good idea to be versed in how they work ahead of time so you can effectively get an SOS out to the groups. Some folks LOVE a good excuse to hit the trail and rescue others. :)
Go big or go home. Or is it, go big when you can't go home? lol
All I'm saying is always have plenty of food and water just in case. High energy snacks are bonus fuel for those hours you'll spend digging.
The AT3W isn't really classified as a hybrid. It's less aggressive than tires like the Geolandar X-AT, ST Maxx, Kenda Klever R/T, Toyo RT or the Ridge Grappler. If you deal with a lot of mud but don't want a full MT I'd look at one of those other tires or even the Milestar Patagonia. They all...
I wired them to the same oem wires I used for the bed lighting which is also tied to the cargo lamp. There is an unused harness behind the drivers tail light that GM uses for the factory bed lighting option. Tap into that. :) If you crawl under the truck on the side and look up behind the tail...
Slim stick through the sidewall. Wildpeak AT3W uses 2ply with a high turn up. Unfortunately I believe the extra turn up ply stops before it reaches the upper sidewall area. LT285/70/17 E
A single plug fixed it up and it held air for the next 200+ miles (75 of which were offroad)
