Companies like Peak Suspension have already started pumping out products for the Ranger.

Justin of Patriot Campers built a sweet blue Ranger with a tray.
The snow conditions last weekend were exactly as you described. Thick, heavy, wet and turns icy slick when compacted too much.
Same conditions last fall. lol
In every scenario in which I've gotten stuck it was because I ran out of ground clearance with my 33" tires. If you drive in an area that is mostly driven by rigs with larger tires then you are bound to get caught up in their ruts. In those situations lockers are useless. The solution is larger...
I went snow wheeling with a buddy in his T4R last weekend and the Ridge Grapplers didn't seem to do well in the snow. He had 10/32nds tread left which should be fine for packed trail snow but he was sliding around WAY more than I was with the Patagonias. In some cases I was actually towing him...
Hey @rho have you come across any stealth or low profile winch bumpers for the 2007+ Silverado? All I'm finding are the I wish I had a bigger manhood monster bumpers. lol
Thanks!
I think a 33" is a good daily driver size. There are a ton of choices in the 33x12.5 or 285/70/17 and you can often find great deals because the latter is a common size. You likely won't need to regear either. My truck has 3.42 gears and does fine on 33s. A 4.10 gear swap would help me...
Very cool and a good vehicle for where you live. We have a lit of Subaru off-roaders here too. One of biggest issues with the traction control system is overheating while trying to get through really tough situations. Have you added a transmission cooler or anything?
My big issue with Duratracs is the lack of a real 3ply sidewall. That's where the Cooper ST Maxx and Geolandar X-AT has them beat. The 3 peak snow rating is hit or miss as some non-rated tires do better than rated tires. MTs do fine in deeper snow. Their biggest issue is on ice and hard packed...
I would recommend MTs. You're going to need every bit of traction you can muster even with a locker so I'd skip ATs and get some grippy tires. :) I play in 2wd a lot and I am amazed at how quickly I lose traction with ATs and a locker.
In his case yes. In my case no. I had zero issues with grip. I only had problems breaking through the packed layer and sinking chassis deep into the soft stuff below. :flushed: Wider and taller tires would have helped and I will pack chains for the rear next time just in case. It was fun...
I thought about this thread while winching last weekend. We winched A LOT! Our snow wheeling trip felt like an episode of 4wd Action due to all of the winching. Here are a few of the thoughts that ran through my head.
1. Steel cables are heavy! After a couple of winching episodes fatigue will...
I hear ya. Thankfully I had a few other sources I could trust who liked them so it was easier to take the risk. 38s would be so nice. Hell 35s would be nice. :) Watching folks wheel them pretty hard was very telling. Especially Lite Brite and JL Life. They really put these tires through hell...
Tuning is specific to your exact vehicle and driving. I.e. a stock JK that only runs fast in the desert will need a different tune than a loaded down overland-speced JK that likes slower speed rock crawling like Brad from Trail Recon. A lot of OEM tunes are designed to work ok for the majority...
I've watched every trip video they have posted. I've learned a lot! :grinning:
I also watch Ronny Dahl, Seek Adventure, AllOffroad 4x4 Adventure, Matt's Offroad Recovery and Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery. Lots of good info on the tube.
It has definitely come in handy!
I put the Patagonias on a month ago after running Wildpeak AT3Ws for a year. The Pats are definitely louder and not quite as smooth rolling, especially at low speeds and when cornering. They are fantastic in snow! Even better than the Wildpeaks. So far I'm happy with them for the 1,000 miles or...
