    Programming HT ham radio

I program the national simplex calling frequencies for 2m and 70cm (my radios are dual band) and a couple of locally used others (creating options for quick use in other areas as well). Of course I can add other simplex frequencies from the keypad if a situation calls for it.

    Programming HT ham radio

I typically put a group of my local repeaters in first, then a group(s) of repeaters in next common areas of travel, then simplex frequencies, then other stuff like GMRS/FRS receive, MURS receive, NOAA (if the radio doesn't have a function for weather channels), local fire/EMS dispatch receive...

Raczilla - My 2020 Gladiator Build

Two questions on #6. First what radios are you using? Second, understanding that bigger is better for antennas, how is this GMRS antenna working for you?

Let's see some HAM setups in your rigs

I have my FT-400 unit mounted under the passenger seat and the head unit in a 67 Designs dash mount. So far no issues, been like this for 2 years. The mount does have a specific attachment point for the FT-400 with fairly quick release for times I want to secure the head unit out of sight or...

Springtail MPAC Rear Door Folding Table

Wow! Among little projects/gear plans for my Jeep, I have been researching folding tables to mount on the rear door. After many situations that having a table there would have helped (i.e., cooking, setting out supplies, radio gear, etc...), this was one to accomplish before heading anywhere...

    First Aid Kit Location

I did buy the bag empty and stock it my way, the bag fit the needs and the contents don't meet any stock bag inventory.

    Mobile Ham Radio Selection?

Here's a pic of the dash/head setup. Fairly quick detach when needed.

    Mobile Ham Radio Selection?

Yes, I've been a ham radio operator for many years and have had a mobile radio (or two) in my vehicles as well. I see digital as a cool function, has some benefits, but as you said, too much incompatibility. I also have a GMRS handheld for when with other in convoy/group settings with nonhams...

    Mobile Ham Radio Selection?

I absolutely love my FTM-400. While the mic cable connects at the main radio, instead of the remote head, I got an extension cable and routed it to where I wanted it without issue. Main radio is mounted under the passenger seat and remote head is detachable on a 67 Designs dash mount. Easy...

    First Aid Kit Location

Right now my kit is on a carabiner on the rear driver's side seat belt post. (I don't have the back seat in place, Jeep JK.) Obvious if you're looking, but not always in the way of or covered up with other stuff. I ensure whomever is with me, almost always my gf, knows where it is. As my...

What's your latest camping gear purchase, and what caused you to buy it?

Looking forward to hearing how it all works for trips and at home...

    89 trooper build

Great to see this. I had an 89 Trooper back then. Before it was called overlanding I had done basics to be useable/survivable in that way; tires, lights, comms, kits/bags/storage setup. Not sure of any pics, they'd be stored somewhere on film . But it worked for me all over the...

What is your must cook meal or must have food for camping.

Foil packet dinners! Go to is usually chicken fajita. Chicken strips prepped ahead with fajita seasoning in a ziploc bag, onions, bell peppers, all in foil over open fire, into tortillas with salsa.

    DMR 31655 Venture Overland

As is normal, lots of possibilities and lots of opinions. I think Miklor does a good job of intro stuff, DMR Info Site - Miklor. It is not a simple adventure, but has its benefits.

Bald Eagle State Forest (recommendation for local support if needed?)

During my exploration of the southern end of BESF a couple weeks ago, we regularly crossed paths with PA DCNR/Park Rangers and other PA DCNR personnel. Of course it would be normal for them to not be there when you actually need them... Of note though, in the southern area, around Poe...

    Tailgater Tire Table

I haven't looked at the dimensions to see how much bigger it is. Curious if it's worth the space to pack it in my Jeep.

    Tailgater Tire Table

Perfect for that. I actually load chairs and sleep pad behind my seats and then this table against those, then cooler and storage tubs behind that. It does now, I have the original steel.

    Appalachian trail overland route......

I bought them and downloaded to my computer. Then opened Gaia GPS on the same computer and loaded them in via clicking my profile button (top right) and "routes". I couldn't figure out how to do it solely on my phone using the app, no doubt there's a way too.
