What's in your driveway and what is your overlanding vehicle strategy?

One vehicle - Jeep JK 2dr soft top. We are able to pack a week trip for the two of us inside and get away. Which leads to strategy - getting away from the concrete/blacktop jungle and all its craziness. While I recognize the limitations of my vehicle choice, it is my balance of daily driver...

    Overland expo east 2021

A similar thought was put out, but region based meetups. I guess the idea could be built with multiple options/groupings if they did it...

    MaxTrax Recovery Boards

I just picked up 2, with the idea that if I can get two wheels traction it should work.

    The Perfect Camp Stove

As @MMc and @Ragman said, all about your needs, size, space, weight, etc. I'm at the other end of the spectrum with storage space and weight for my needs. Love my JetBoil Genesis Basecamp!

It was good to meet you at Overland Expo East. Radio and outdoors, two of my favorite things!

    Ham radio

Yes, you can listen all you want to most anything on radio frequency (no cellular phones, no decrypting encrypted transmissions). Radio frequency usage is regulated in the USA by the FCC. Yes, unlicensed transmissions on a license required frequency can result in fines, jail, confiscation of...

    Ham radio

No. CB is unregulated upper HF frequencies. Ham has many options, is licensed by a testing method, most commonly for overland types in the VHF/UHF frequencies. General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is specific UHF frequencies and more limitations on power and repeater usage than ham, licensed...

    Ham radio

A key question here, based on the OP's response "Some of the requirements the rallies have is to have a radio ", is what kind of radios is the group(s) using for these trips? I would start with the same type/band/license that they are using and grow capabilities from there. While amateur radio...

    Overland Expo East 2021

As far as I could tell, there was either no limit or enforcement of size. Similarly, the space allotted seemed to be fairly related to your needs. The guy parking us when we arrived asked how much space we needed for the tent, and seemed to be picky about how close each rig was parked, but in...

    Overland Expo East 2021

Had a great weekend at Overland Expo East. Participated in a bunch of classes, all well done and well balanced to review for the experienced and teaching for new stuff. It did seem like a leaning towards bigger, more, fancier stuff. I'm keeping it simple and basic. Picked up a few things...

    Ham & now GMRS

Just installed my BTECH GMRS-50X1 and a Signal Stalk antenna in my Jeep. This adds an option to my already in place amateur radio setup. I changed out some of the installation to allow for fairly easy removal between off road adventures, as it's also my daily driver.

Members with information/experience/interest in Pennsylvania State Forests for off pavement travel/dispersed camping

Was actually able to find a last minute spot in R.B. Winter State Park/BESF last weekend. (Yes, not dispersed, but it was available.) Crazy busy. Lucked out with no rain for a couple days, although way humid. But still a weekend away!

What's your latest camping gear purchase, and what caused you to buy it?

Jetboil Genesis Basecamp System I needed a new stove to replace my 30 year old Coleman. The adaptability and compactness of the stove and pot/pan got my attention. Used it for the first time to make breakfast, didn't even go crazy with it and am happy. Easy to use, easy to clean up, easy to...

    Friday Night HAM Radio NET

I tried tonight... But I'm missing something with the DMR access. Is there anything special for programming the BM bridge# instead of a regular talkgroup# ? Other TGs seem to be working tonight, but these two bridges I have nothing. Thanks. Mike
