In search of: The Best Ground Tents

Well they claim they are good in the wind if tied down. Also it's insulated against heat and cold. Good for emergency shelters too.

    Dash compass

The FJ Cruiser came with a compass, temp gauge and an inclinometer. The compass is just like what @CDN Offroader mentioned... it's accurate enough to point you in a general direction. My temp gauge seems to be a degree or two off on some days. The inclinometer works great when I think to double...

In search of: The Best Ground Tents

There is a fellow on the Texas Overland facebook page that has one of these and swears it's the best tent he's ever had. For the price, I believe it. If I get to where I want a bigger shelter, then I'll look into this or a larger RTT. https://store.advancedsheltersystemsinc.com/?___store=shiftpod

Eating utensils traditional or new age?

I'm looking for a decent set of reusable utensils. I've been rebuilding up my camping gear the last few years. I just got a nice GCI cookware set that I used on my last outing. It was awesome. Now if I can just find some good utensils for my camp kitchen set up, I'm golden. I like the idea of...

In search of: The Best Ground Tents

Here's my "Best Tent" for my needs. I sleep alone, my wife doesn't like camping. Easy set up and take down less than 5 minutes each. I can strap it to my roofrack or toss it in the back of my FJ, depending on how much gear I'm haulin' Toss in a comfy mattress and I'm sleeping like a baby!

    Name my Rig!

I'll be honest with you, I would wait until you are "Inspired" by a name that fits your rig, instead of letting us decide. Then you might end up not liking it down the road... That being said, I'd call it "Hooker" after John Lee Hooker, a bad assed Bluesman

    Excursion to...Nowhere??

I spent about 3 nights/ 4 days out there between Xmas and New Years. I still didn't hit everything. I'm still doing my write up for the blog site I'm part of: http://overland.kinja.com The whole area has a ton of sites to see, wheeling to do and dark quiet nights to enjoy. Some of the best...

    Camp Photos!

I just bought a new camp kitchen from REI for like $59. It's super fast to set up and take down. Prior to that I had one from Gander Mountain that was nice too, but I like my new one better. https://www.rei.com/product/881640/gci-outdoor-slim-fold-cook-station

    Excursion to...Nowhere??

I just looked, I don't here on my work PC. I'll have to check once I get home. However, that spot is located in Big Bend Ranch State Park in West Texas. There is a one vehicle trail heading up into an ancient collapsed volcano that ends at "Nowhere". on the other side of that sign it says "The...

    State Licensing

Texas requires you to have one. They expire at the end of August every year. They do work in other states that have licensing requirements also, or so they say. Since I was heading to AZ a couple of years ago, I looked up their requirements also. They stated that they had a reciprical...

    Lonestar Toyota Jamboree - May 4th - 7th

I would consider Tandem Automotive in Ft. Worth for the Toytec, that's who I used. They get it installed and dial in an alignment like nobody's business. They specialize in Toyota's and in Toyota Offroad vehicles. www.tandemauto.com Trailworx will install it for you too, Dave is great! He...

    Lonestar Toyota Jamboree - May 4th - 7th

Thanks! I'm mechanically challenged myself. I was mainly thinking of cleaning it out, cleaning & lubing up the hi-lift, and finally a good soaking underneath to get the dirt and mud off the bottom. That reminds me though, I do need to head to Trailworx to finish getting the rear bumper fitted...

    Lonestar Toyota Jamboree - May 4th - 7th

Man, I'm ready to go back yesterday. The only problem is that my father in law is going in for back surgery tomorrow. It will be at least 4-6 weeks before I can get out of the house for a weekend trip. I can't leave my wife to take care of him and my mother in law all by herself. If you don't...
