    TXpedition Holiday Overland

OH, and if I'm lucky, I'll have a new rear bumper to trail test out in Big Bend! I believe it's at the powder coat now. Flat Black :)

    TXpedition Holiday Overland

So Saturday found me "Pre Packing" (test fitting) my gear in the FJ. I pretty much fit everything I was going to take into the back, after pulling out the rear seat bottom cushions. The only thing I didn't have was firewood, the clothes I'm taking and the food in the cooler. Everything fit well...

    Water Storage (Merged Thread)

Thanks for the info. I'll double check, since the store is right around the corner from me. If they are too thin, then I've got 2 weeks to find something sturdier before I head out to Big Bend.

I agree, 2 weeks would be amazing. However, I'll take the 4 nights over not going. 2 years ago, the weather was amazing... Cold, clear, and crisp during the day. I'm hoping it's like that, but I'll take whatever is thrown at me. :) 16 Days and a wake up!

    Water Storage (Merged Thread)

Glad I came across this thread. I was about to go buy one or two of these Scepter "Jerry" cans in blue plastic. Anyone else recommend them?

Good Luck! I do write ups at Overland & Expedition on Kinja sometimes. Nothing professional, just to share my trips. It's nice when folks appreciate your work. I'm heading out to Big Bend in 2 1/2 weeks myself :)

What tires do you like? (Merged Thread)

So I've been running Nitto Trail Grapplers for roughly 45K miles. Ive taken them to the desert all over Big Bend (rocks, dirt, cactus thorns), North and East Texas (Rock, dirt, mud, more rock) and Sedona, AZ (slick rock and dirt). Both on and off the pavement they have been fantastic. I got the...

    FJ Cruiser registry

Well, I only have the stock suspension to compair it to. But, it's WAY better. The bumps and the rebound are softer than the bilstein shocks I had. (I had the "Offroad" package) Along with the Toytec suspension, I had an SPC UCA installed for longer travel. Front Sway bar is also off. So...

    TXpedition Holiday Overland

Well my wonderful wife didn't balk when I told her I wanted a newer tablet for loading navigation apps and mounting it in the cab of the FJ. Sunday found me at Sams Club where I found a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (8 inch screen). It's perfect for the trip, I've already loaded Backcountry Navigator...

    Communications for the Beginner

Currently everyone I go wheeling with uses CB out on the trails. We tend to be close enough together to communicate. Yesterday a handful of my friends went and passed the HAM radio license (Whatever the basic one is), so they are looking into that. I'm hitting the trail with a guy who has his...

Wow, that one looks pretty comfy. He can sit up in it. Here's a photo off the website of mine. I got the wide one so that I can keep some belongings in there with me in case of bad weather. It's wide and long enough to where I have plenty of room.

Yes it is. I bought it almost a year ago and so far so good. I'm about to put it to the test out in the desert in a few weeks. I'm more worried about it blowing away from the high wind than I am about the cold weather.
