    Has overlanding become elitist ?

I don't think "overlanding" is elitist and I don't think there is anything wrong with people of all walks of life (and financial means) enjoying a moment or a lifetime away from the concrete jungle. Sure, there are some that will buy only the best and justify to everyone else why they spent...

    What is the best winch

If anyone is looking for a mid-range winch, Amazon has a smoking deal on the Smittybilt X2O Comp 12k winch. This has the synthetic line and meets the IP68 "Water Proof" standards. It is currently going for $503.21. I called one of the largest aftermarket Jeep parts sellers to see if they...

FCC proposes new fees for ham radio

This would be a huge barrier for many young people who might be interested in amateur radio. I have elmored (mentored) a number of scouts who, if the "cost of entry" was $50 wouldn't have been able to get their ticket. Heck, my daughter worked hard doing chores to get the $15 testing fee so...

    San Juan Islands dispersed camping

I don't believe there is any dispersed camping in San Juan County. From my searching, the closest you can get to that is primitive camp sites at Washington State Parks on Orcas Island and Lopez Island or the San Juan County Parks on San Juan Island, Lopez Island, and Shaw Island. There are...

    New to Overlanding, Help!

I'm going to depart from the wisdom being shared and tell you not to do anything with your vehicle until you have taken it off-pavement a few times. A JT or JL is a capable vehicle straight out of the showroom. Get a better understanding of how you intend to use it (rock crawling or forest...

LED lights on an old rig (2008 Wrangler jku)

There are two problems you will run into when upgrading to LED lighting. The first problem is due to the CANBUS monitoring of the circuit. The system utilizes the resistance on a circuit to identify a fault. With an LED bulb, the resistance is much lower than the CANBUS is expecting, so it...

Roof top tent on home made cross bars??

I will second @Jku Ben's comment about the angle looking too thin and that unistrut/superstrut is the way to go. It will be much more flexible while also being sturdier than this setup.

    Self made window system.

That looks great! I gotta say, I was expecting you to tell us that you used your $15k CNC machine... but then you said Dremel and left me in awe at your skills. Very well done!

Hi J. Michael (@DNB), welcome to the Overland Bound family! There is nothing wrong with being minimalist... I have had many adventures in my Jeep that were as simple as a couple MRE and sleeping in the back of the JKU. The important thing isn't what gadgets you have, but what adventures you...

    Why are wranglers so expensive

A large part of their popularity is due to the introduction of the 4-door Wrangler, the JKU. This made the Wrangler a whole lot more family friendly and turned a new segment of the market into Wrangler owners and greatly increased Jeep's SUV (it hurts to use that term for a Wrangler) market...

    JKUR Lift

What are you trying to achieve? Are there obsticles that you are encountering that need more articulation? Or is it an issue with sag due to the added weight of overlanding stuff? Or do you just like to have the tallest rig at the mall? Just kidding with the last one. The first thing I would...

    Why are wranglers so expensive

Jeeps hold their value because, like you, many people want to buy one. It is a case of supply and demand. As for rust, it depends on where the rig lived and what purpose it served. Living in Massachusetts = rust. Used as an offroad beater = rust. If you want something free of rust, I...
