New Scout: No discussion?

I did a couple quick searches but did not find any results for the new Scout and few about the old Scout, whether 80. 800 or II.

Wondering if there is little to no talk of it here because New Scout is electric? Also, why do US car companies keep being bought by European car companies? How did it happen that International Harvester doesn't own the Scout name but VW does?

International Harvester went belly up in the 80s (around the time they stopped producing the Scout) and was acquired by Navistar. Navistar was taken over by Traton (subsidiary of VW) in 2020 and was later rebranded International Motors. So technically, VW owns what is left of International Harvester, not just the rights to the Scout name.

And yeah, zero interest here because it's electric. Not sure everyone elses reason.

Still 3-4 years out. Supposably there will be a series hybrid. Because its a gas motor, its possible we can see it. For me to own a hybrid it must be a series. The pictures I've seen are too nice for me to take off road and no projection on price.

Used to see AutoCar and IH dumpers on the highway here all winter, plowing and sanding. Oh well

Seems like kind of a fail? When you bring back a nameplate like Blazer or Scout, you alienate the original base if you change the vehicle too much. Even if the new vehicle is a good one, you are picking up a new base anyway, so call it something else, why dont they

Same with the Land Rover Defender.

Land Rover used to be a fine off road name. It's a shame that they only make yuppie mall crawlers now.

I think this new Scout is more of the same. Tough mall truck for women that don't go anywhere.

Don't expect much fan fare. Cars no more advanced than a flashlight, are not the way forward.

Maybe VW missed the bankruptcy of some of the other EV's.

Bronco is damn near the same thing, without the electric nonsense. Both Jeep and Toyota offer superior hybrids now.

Sorry, but Rivian sucks. When your design idea includes "like Rivian", you're doomed.

Since they are building this HUGE facility just across the interstate from my house I see a good bit in the news about the goings on. Certainly is blowing up this little town. Production is schedule for 2027. Guess I'll be ready to sell out by then since my property value has about doubled. Taxes not far behind.

There are several models planned. Maybe a hybrid in there too. Looks like a Rivian. With advances in battery technology it may be feasible...one day. Will be interesting to see where it all goes. I'm sure it will be an excellent mall crawler! Maybe Toyota is on to something with their hydrogen cartridges. Batteries sure don't seem as "green" as some would present it to be.

Eh, I'm sure it will sell well enough, just like the Rivians and Cyber Trucks. They won't hit F150 numbers, but they seem to do just fine. I see tons of Rivians and Cyber Dumpsters in north Dallas. Mostly dudes who wear skin-tight joggers and baggy sweat shirts in 90 degree weather, and want convince everyone they have more money than they do. Hell, the guy who services my neighbors pool drives a Rivian truck. You know they're doing alright when they're selling to someone who would have otherwise bought a Tacoma .

That said, I can't see myself ever buying an EV. Hybrid or not. The closest I'd go is a new GX or LC250 hybrid, but my first choice woud be the v6TT GX (non-hybrid) as long as that option still exists (I hear from a friend who works at Toyota US HQ here in Plano that they're going 100% hybrid in the GX, Tundra, and Sequoia at some point).

The only way I'd ever even consider an EV is if they make with solar skin... so it'll charge itself sitting in the parking lot at work. Why do we have "green" vehicles that aren't taking advantage of "green" energy?

As a German I have to admit that VW still is on the wrong course and continues to make bad decisions, even though, they aren't as bad as with the last Boss they had.
Scout has an American leader board but I guess they still have no idea what they did by adopting the name and how many disappointing decisions they already made.
Even the new Landrover Defender is by far more true to its heritage than the Scout will be.
It's just going to be another electric passenger car that accidentally sits a bit higher.

The Scout is available here as a 4-cylinder petrol (gasoline) with a single-range 4x4 (not a distributed AWD because its drive is front or front and back together, the same as my VW). It might appeal to a Subaru buyer who needs a bigger car.

Oh it has nothing in common with those as far as I know.
It doesn't base on a VW platform or on the rivian, technically Scout is completely independent and own developed.
