US Northwest Idaho BDR (and then some!)

If you are having trouble registering for this trip, don’t sweat it. Just post here on this thread that you for whatever reason couldn’t register, then just introduce yourself a bit, and let us know if you’re doing just the IDBDR or are going to go the full ride to the OR coast. That way I’ve...

Yes! Someone understands me. And if you look at the IDBDR map, we'll be spending a little bit of time on the IDBDR in Montana (which is Mountain Time). I don't know why it makes the detour into Montana.

A couple more things to note for the trip: There is a question of what time zone we will be using. We will be using Pacific Time Zone for the meet-up on 28 July, and for the duration of the trip. If you're using Mountain Time zone... well you'll just be there early. Check this out - it talks...

According to the IDBDR map, the IDBDR is broken into eight sections: Section 1: 174 miles Section 2: 200 miles Section 3: 205 miles Section 4: 125 miles Section 5: 190 miles Section 6: 127 miles Section 7: 106 miles Section 8: 110 miles Those distances might not seem like much, but...

We will be meeting at the Outdoor Inn parking lot in Jarbidge, NV on Thursday, 28 July. Be there no later than 0800 (Pacific Time) with tummies full, gas tanks full, coolers full, and bladders empty. Show up ready to roll. We will have a brief driver's meeting starting at 0800, assign convoy...

Anyone buying anything special for this trip? Doing any vehicle modifications? My side view mirrors don't like to stay in place (I'm often having to readjust them), so I've ordered some new ones. They're manually adjusted - no electric adjusting. My Jeep's a 1998, but supposedly the mirrors...

Looking for British Columbia-Yukon-Alaska overlanding route.

Get the book "The Milepost". It will tell you everything you need to know to plan your trip. The 2022 issue is out now.

I would be ok if we used HAM instead of GMRS if everyone had a HAM radio and license (I'm KI7TSP). But I wouldn't want anyone to not sign up because they didn't have a HAM radio and license. My Baofeng BF-F8HP radio has both (dual band HAM and GMRS), so I'm covered either way. Since we'll...

You definitely do have quite the trip planned! I almost planned this trip for Colorado, but time constraints dictated something a little closer to WA (hence Idaho). I'm looking forward to hearing about your travels. Has everyone ordered their IDBDR map and downloaded the coordinates on their...

The question came up about camping in/around Jarbidge, and maybe us meeting up at a campground on the Wednesday before our rally place/time. I sent an email to someone official in Jarbidge regarding camping, and this was her reply. I have not checked out any of the links yet. Do any of these...

Don't have a satellite messenger. Might have to look into something like that. I do a lot of solo overlanding; I need to get something for emergency communication.

Glad you're coming! Are you doing just the IDBDR, or are you going to do the whole thing? I definitely plan on getting there the Wednesday before (if not the Tuesday before - looks like the roads are kinda iffy getting into Jarbidge). I don't want to cut it too close - it would be bad if the...

Do I really need to bring extra gas?

If you get to Dawson City (awesome little town), you're very close (about 30 miles) to the start of the Dempster Highway. And from there it is about 600 miles to Tuktoyaktuk which is on the coast of the Arctic Ocean. Another bucket list trip - plan at least 5-6 days to run the Dempster up and...

Do I really need to bring extra gas?

You bring back memories. We did the Top of the World Highway years ago, camped at Chicken, dropped the trailer at the campsite, and for a day trip drove to Eagle and back. I don't remember stressing about gas on that trip, so we must have filled-up in Chicken before heading to Eagle...

Do I really need to bring extra gas?

I carry extra fuel. It gives me peace of mind - I don't like stressing watching the gas gauge go down and worrying about running out of gas. When I get to half a tank, I'm looking for a gas station. I do a lot of solo overlanding. My Jeep has about a 19 gallon gas tank. There's a...

Poll: Matching trailer tire size to vehicle tire size

Kinda. My primary tow rig is a Jeep TJ with the 2.5/five-speed, 4.88 gears, 33" tires (heavy 285/75/16"). Pulling my trailer is a bit of work for my TJ. TJ has a bolt pattern of 5 on 4.5". Current TJ tires are Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT ("E" rated tire with three ply sidewalls - heavy...

Just got a notice from the BDR folks that come next year, they will be releasing an Oregon BDR route. That's great news for those of us that live in the PNW who want to explore more of our local region. I need to find out if it is suitable for four-wheeled vehicles. Oregon Backcountry...

Hi Wildman - welcome to Overland Bound! I think you'll like it here. And to everyone else - The Overland Adventure Rallies have opened up for registration this summer! What's it been... two years since they've had them? Damn Covid. Link: Home | Overland Adventure Rallies - Have Fun, Make...

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

Boring stuff: 1. The intermittent wiper function on my 96 Ram 1500 4x4 is acting wonky, so I ordered a replacement lever from Rock Auto. Should be an easy swap-out. 2. The HVAC system in my TJ isn't wanting to blow air all the time on the dash vents, so I ordered a replacement lever thingy...
