TAT 1.1. Where's Paul?
So.... when I was in CO with Neal, my clutch throw-out bearing started squealing a bit. I figured it could squeal all it wanted to; if that was all it did I'd deal with it when I got home.
Fast forward a few days. Yesterday I was skipping ahead of the TAT in WY, and...
So this morning I broke camp and continued on the TAT to WY. Beautiful views, driving through Aspen tree forests… almost dreamlike.
Eventually that went away, and it became dusty gravel roads with sagebrush on either side. But I stayed on the TAT till the WY border. Then I took a paved road...
TAT 1.1. Neal took us on some awesome trails for two days, ending with Tincup. Beautiful views.
After finishing up yesterday, we went our separate ways. Neal headed home, and Tim had plans to meet up with a friend, so I'm back to driving solo.
Last night I slept in an open field... very...
TAT 1.1. Because of the pending bad weather, Neal invited Tim and me to come straight to his place in NW Pueblo. So here we are.
So tomorrow we're going to explore some of the many trails and passes CO has to offer with Neal leading the way. Wednesday we'll do Tincup. I'm excited.
Once...
TAT 1.0 is now TAT 1.1. I'm back on the road. Spending the night in a Cracker Barrel parking lot in Pearl Mississippi (near Jackson). Right next to the highway... probably won't be a good night of sleep. But breakfast will be good! They open at 0700.
Plan is for us to meet in CO Monday and...
Maybe I'll pause in Trinidad to let you catch up.
Tim... how much of the TAT do you plan on doing, or how many days do you plan on being gone before turning back home?
TAT 1.0 (last one remaining). Leaving Florida Saturday morning. Skipping OK. Should get to Trinidad CO Monday evening. Then back on the TAT Tuesday 6 July.
If you’re an experienced off roader it should be ok. If you’re new to four wheeling you should bypass it. Get out frequently to pick your line before proceeding.
Lessons learned from the trip so far (in no particular order)...
There is safety in numbers. Both physical security, and if you get stuck or broke down.
Reinforced importance of strong attachment points front and rear. Two up front are better than one.
TAT can get repetitive after a while...
I had a wheel bearing go bad on the trailer in Mississippi on the way to Florida. I had on hand most of what I needed to repair/replace it, but it put me behind a few hours. If you’re pulling a trailer, carry a loaded hub assembly, and a spare axle nut, washer, and cotter pins. And a large...
TAT 1.0. So the slow group (TAT 2.0 was still a day behind us when we flipped) is down to one... me. What to do....
I am taking a break from the TAT to visit my elderly parents in Florida ( only 1100 miles from Alma). Two days to drive there, spend maybe three days there, then head back west...
TAT 1.0. So now that we had the happy reunion, we slowly drove the right sided vehicle off the trail and into town. Spongy brakes but the e brake worked. Parked it, and we got rooms at a nice motel 6 in Alma. Plan was to get a good night's sleep, and meet at Cracker Barrel for breakfast and...
TAT 1.0. So next morning was Warloop. Some challenging spots for sure, but it is mostly downhill. I was tailgunner. After the last major ledge, one of our group swung a little too wide around a rock and started to climb over a large log on the other side of the trail. She went up and over...
TAT 1.0. Saturday we met a nice couple doing the TAT driving a large Landcruiser "Turtle". We had lunch, with them at the Oark Cafe, and they decided to join us. So now four vehicles in the group.
On the way to the campsite Sat night, they pulled over a little too much to let a truck pass and...
TAT 1.0. Yesterday we stopped at a fruitstand that also sold meat (only in Arkansas). So we bought a 4 pack of burger patties, and we all had hamburgers for dinner. We camped at the Petit Jean State Park Campground last night. This morning after showering I made us muffins for breakfast...
