    X Bull Recovery Mount

A couple of 1/4" bolts with rubber vacuum caps (or you could use 1/4" ID vacuum or fuel line). Pictures tell the story. I have two pairs of X-bulls. Sometimes they are on the lid of my trailer (first two pictures); sometimes they are on the roof (crossbars) of my truck (3rd and 4th picture)...

    Tailgater Tire Table

Yeah; this is an old thread. I picked one up a few years ago at Overland Expo East (2019?). I got it at the vendor price since I "technically" was a vendor at the event. I used it at the event where I camped; worked as advertised. Pros: It works as advertised. Folds up flat (and...

Welcome. I'm ArmyRN (retired now). Feel free to send me a PM if you have questions about the TAT. Not that I'm the expert, but I've "been there, done that". US East - Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast | OVERLAND BOUND COMMUNITY

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Don't let me (or others) scare you away from doing the TAT. Take your time, don't be afraid to skip over parts, take some side trips, and take lots of pictures! It is quite the adventure. Parts of it are truly awesome.

    Let them eat SPAM!

Too cool! It is making me think of song titles (why are most if not all of these country songs?). "If loving you is wrong, I don't want to be right" "Feels so right" "Ninety nine and forty four onehundrenth percent pure love" "She's close enough to perfect, for me" "Love the one you're...

Overlanding in a small economy car

The 1.2" lift kit for the Yaris came in the mail today. And the instructions (with pictures!) are also in English, which is nice. Looks simple enough to install; hopefully within the next few weeks I'll dig into it.

Overlanding in a small economy car

My first car was a 63 bug. I have a soft spot for them.

Overlanding in a small economy car

You're all in(?!) - what are you thinking of taking on the trip? I did the math based on $1.61 a liter, converted CA dollars to US, converted liters to gallons... still comes out to about $5.00/gallon. Here in the US it is a little under $4.00/gallon. It adds up when you're doing a couple...

Overlanding in a small economy car

You two bring up some valid points that I had already thought about. So lets discuss it. This is still in the wishful thinking/mental exercise/get folks thinking stage (gotta start somewhere). As an aside, I googled gas prices in western Canada. Converting Canadian to US dollars, and just...

Overlanding in a small economy car

This trip I'm looking at (running the Dempster) for me (living in SW WA) would be at or just over 5,000 miles round trip. Figuring gas in Canada at $4.00/gallon (anyone know the going rate up there? I'm probably underestimating), and my Jeep at 15mpg (which is good towing the trailer and a...

Overlanding in a small economy car

It has started... I ordered the 30mm (1.2") lift for my Yaris. It is coming from Russia if I read it right, so don't know how long till it arrives. I'm curious to see what the Mighty Yaris looks like with the lift. Of course I'll post pictures. Is anyone else seriously or semi-seriously...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Glad I could be of some help. Neal was great; him escorting us around CO was probably my favorite part of the trip. Him and his wife were great hosts.

Overlanding in a small economy car

Ok; I took some measurements inside the Yaris. From a few inches before the front of the glovebox, to the back edge of the trunk area, I've got seven feet of length. So I should be good there. Might not be as wide as I'd like, but... it is a subcompact car. I'd rather be able to stretch...

Overlanding in a small economy car

Oh I'm still thinking about it. I've got the trailer back together (new axle and tires), and I just need to rebuild the front track bar on the TJ (got the parts - just need a day off from work) and that'll be done and back on the road. And then I can start messing with the Mighty Yaris...

Overlanding in a small economy car

So... I was driving to work this afternoon in the Mighty Yaris (because I'm a manly man), and I'm looking at the passenger seat. And I'm thinking "I could remove this passenger seat (four bolts), and make a platform that meets up with the back seat that is laying flat". So I could sleep in the...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Not really. I got as far as Idaho (started in WV) before clutch trouble had me sprinting home. I got the gist of the TAT. It is one of those "glad I did it; in no rush to do it again" kind of deals. I'd been reading about the TAT for years, so it was on my bucket list. I would like to head...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Thanks. I don't like having any of my vehicles or the trailer "down" for any length of time. At the same time, if I'm going to have to repair something, I look to see if I can make it even better than it was before. Or at least prettier (like new grade 8 nuts and washers; even though they're...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

And the trailer's back together. New axle with a built-in "crown", so hopefully the trailer tires will wear evenly. New tires already installed on the trailer. It is ready for its next adventure (running the Dempster?), but for now it sits in the corner of the shop patiently waiting to go...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

So in case I left anyone wondering... the Jeep is back together and on the road. The fuel pump was replaced by me, and is working fine now. The clutch throw-out bearing was toast (hence the squealing and weird pedal feel). So in addition to replacing the clutch system (and a new fork and...
