US Northwest June 2020 WABDR - Washington Backcountry Discovery Route

Probably not, but I just like to be prepared just-in-case. My Jeep TJ doesn't have the greatest range. I just finished the Idaho BDR. Another awesome trip!

Random thoughts or take-aways from both trips (IDBDR and the Spur) in no particular order (just as I think of them): 1. Trails are narrow. Lots of trees had been down and cut to clear the trail. They didn't do us any favors by cutting the fallen trees - lots of times you had to squeeze...

"And Then Some..." So five finished the IDBDR. Of the five, one person only planned to do the BDR, so he I think took the long way home (hopefully he'll post his trip home). That left four of us to do the Pacific Ocean Spur ("POS" - I hate that name for it - I'm calling it the "Spur"). Two...

Report time (hopefully other participants will post). We finished the IDBDR. We started with seven vehicles (all Jeeps or Toyotas). Five finished. One dropped out because he had a planned visit with a friend close to the route (and he was having alternator issues with his Yota). Another...

Left WA this morning. Spending the night in Meridian ID. Will get to Jarbidge tomorrow.

I'm bringing this back up again just so you all might review it again before we meet up Thursday morning. I'm heading out Monday morning (tomorrow morning) for Jarbidge. And I will add one more thing to the convoy operations and instructions above. I plan on being out front (#1 vehicle) the...

Most definitely. That would suck though. Those two sections are supposed to be very scenic. We'll make it work - might just have to do some detours and rerouting. Won't be my first time doing so. I've been more concerned about fire detours - there's always something. Thanks for the...

Doing logistical stuff to get ready for the trip. Hit the grocery store this morning to restock vittles, and got some engine oil and butane cylinders and other misc. items. Sunday I'll pack clothes. I still need to get a scrunch sack for my sleeping bag, and some more bug spray. And I want...

And that Wednesday I'll be monitoring GMRS channel 15 for those non-hammers. If there's a lot of noise on 15 I'll switch to 16. It's getting close! I need an adventure.

I should be getting there Tuesday afternoon or early Wednesday. I’ll be coming in from the north. Don’t know where I’m camping yet.

Sometime after the IDBDR and before starting the “something else” we’ll have a laundry and restock half day. And depending on when we finish the IDBDR it would be fun to have a celebratory meal together before some folks head home. I’ve had a very busy summer so far, and I’m really looking...

Not sure where we'll be camping every night (it is part of the adventure). Depends on what's at the end of each segment, and what's available. Have you bought a paper map? It talks about each segment and what is at the end of each. Feel free to research it further for us. Doubt any motels...

    Scottles Worth the Price?

Maybe if I was cooking for a larger group, but usually it is just me. I use a one-burner stove (propane/butane combo). Does all I need it to do. I've got a two-burner Coleman stove I can bring if I needed to (haven't had the need since I got the one-burner). Usually I'm just frying up...

Oh yes - camping and "roughing it" are not the same thing. I like my comforts.

Here's a better picture of the comic strip (pulled off the internet) if you want to save it for whatever reason. If only I could edit the word "camping" to "overlanding". Oh well....

I cut this out of the paper yesterday. The cat got hold of it before I could take a picture of it (hence the tear). Ever been accused of this? Today is 28 June. We start our mental illness enabling trip 28 July - one month from today. Looking forward to hitting the trail!

DM I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) stands for Direct Message. Sometimes called PM (Private Message). If you click on my avatar (picture in upper left hand corner), it should bring you to a page where you can send me a message. If there isn't an "edit" button at the bottom of your...

I didn't like how I had the HAM radio's mike mounted on the dash speaker's cover, so I made a bracket and mounted it close to the roof. I already had a bolt there for the roof rack, so no additional drilling needed. I got it as over to the left and as forward as possible and still letting the...

I still have the 8-watt hand held mounted on the dash. Except now it has a rubber antenna (no longer connected to the external antenna), and I don't have the mike attached right now (is in the center console for now since it is sometimes in the way). So yeah; I can have both radios on (HAM and...
