I just have to say that you folks from Michigan are lucky to have the UP and all the trails you have up there. Maybe we were pretty lucky with the mosquitoes last week but I'll definitely be back for more backroad exploration in the UP.
I do think that 'overlanding' as a terminology continues to change its definition now that it is getting more used here in the US. The traditional definition does not quite fit us but just like any word in the dictionary, it evolves.
What i do notice though is a lot of folks join 'overlanding'...
I was just here this week.
DH campground in Sleeping Bear. First come first serve.
Dispersed camping on Green rd (close to Nordhouse Trail head) lots of choices here and the sites are really great. Close to Ludington beach.
I camped at warren dunes as well but it's just because i had no...
Mouth of the Huron and Somewhere along Lake Superior (day 1 and 2) of our 7 day michigan trip. We skipped drummond to take the kids to lake michigan beaches instead. We had enough of the UP forest/mud trails otherwise what a beautiful place. Still in progress, cooking dinner at the moment...

Fyi that steering play is all on the MT tires the rubicons come with. Drive one with the street oriented ATs (sahara) and what difference do the tires make in the steering/handling. It was the very first thing i noticed when i test drove them. I tried a sahara and rubicon and still ended up...
it is so simple... Do you need to put the top down and take the doors off? Then get the Jeep. The JKUs will ride the most jeep-like (duh!!) compared to all other 4WD SUVs and if you detest that, stay away. A lot of buyers get buyers remorse after realizing their Jeeps don't drive like a car...
Congrats! The Rubicon really makes up a pretty solid adventure/overlander vehicle. I am surprised how much it can give whatever I throw at it. A little tight space wise but the Gobi Rack more than makes up for it.
I just recently realized that some folks buy only brand names not to show off but because of comfort zone. Buying off-brand is taken as a risk which conservative buyers stay away from. Unfortunately they are the ones that get tagged as brand snobs. Guitars/wines/all sorts of gear, i've seen...
Trip completed. I really think Badlands and Blackhills are a bit underrated. Sorry Daniel i hope i didnt mess up your schedule. We were running late and running tired so we had to camp out at Indian Creek. Here are some pics.

i was surprised i was the only one with an RTT in the last trail ride i did with the MOS folks. But then most are running solo, i won't be bothered with RTT myself. I roll with my wife + 2 kids and the RTT works the best for us.
I'll let a friend know, he owns an LC200 and he probably is now...
