It went with us on a 7 day trip down the Oregon coast... plus a LOT of Idaho dirt roads.
The nice thing is that it’s not on a stalk, so it doesn’t bounce around. I can easily reroute and things while underway because it is solid against the dash.

Step 1: Locate a 3x5 trailer that has been sitting at Lowe’s for a while, then talk the Lowe’s manager down from $479 to $350 by using cash and pointing out as many scratches and dents as possible. Buying in winter also helps.
Step 2: Cut and grind off all the expanded sheet metal, and the...
I make my own. The last one I used in our Expedition hooked into the defrost vents, then had flat climbing rope that looped into an Otterbox Defender clip on case. The iPad clipped right into that. Cost: ~$10.
Attached is a picture of the prototype/proof of concept with the yellow yarn, the...
I’m not the kind of guy to make a decision from only two options. I’m the kind of guy that writes down everything I want, searches the country for it, flies to the location to buy it, then drives it home. I’ve done that with multiple cars, trucks, and motorcycles, and I have never been...
Bad news… Apple and android both plan for their products to be obsolete, usually within about five years. That is not always the case with the newer stuff, it seems like they are letting the newer stuff go longer, but all that first and second generation stuff is pretty much just good for old...
Lowes sells a 3 x 5 trailer, which is the basis for my current DIY build. I plan on an elevated rooftop tent set up, and we use the three case method of storing goods. Should work perfectly for us.

Oh! I didn’t realize you lived in Southern California… If you live in California you powder coat everything, then just re-do it whenever you want to change something or get a scratch on it :-)
I lived in San Diego for 10 years.

Bedliner is way heavier than powdercoat. Powdercoating looks nicer. Some types of bedliners chip, even the pro stuff from the dealers. Powdercoating is expensive, which makes you not want to ruin it...
In all honesty black spray paint is great, because when you scrape it up, which will happen...
As soon as you need a locker, you won’t think they were a waste of money...
I recently found myself stuck for 6 hours with my family in the rig... a locker, and a winch, and we would likely have been out in an hour. Maxtrax did not work in this situation.

Hey guys...
New (to us) 2002 Mitsubishi Montero XLS overland rig this year. Here are some specs:
Curb Weight: 4600lbs
Tires: New Cooper Discoverer AT3 265/75/16
Wheels: Stock aluminum (NOT beadlocks)
Trail types: Washboard dirt mixed with small rocks
What would you guys air down to?
*Yes...
Another point of view:
Full size American trucks are very heavy. Way heavier than your little Tacoma. Heavy trucks sink really well in mud. Light trucks skitter across the top... there are quite a few advantages to lightweight vehicles.

Be prepared to cut into that new fender...
I’ve never ran a snorkel, and have been into water near the top of my 31” tire. Snorkel would be needed for water that goes over the hood... just something to keep in mind.
Might wanna consider your limit and the limit of those people in the car with...
It seems like most normal folks only need to extend their differential breeders and transmission breather. That is phase 1. If you really think you will have water all the way up to your air filter intake, then you definitely need a snorkel.
I think ARB has a differential breather extension...
