What is the Quintessential Camp Food?

I forgot a staple I take along. I freeze homemade New Mexico style tamales with chili. I thaw them out and steam them in a pan on the trail.

Frito pie with lots of NM green chili added in . Keeps you warm all night!

My easiest food while camping for a weekend was nuts, beef jerky and protein bars.

A staple for the past few years has been cheesesteaks on the griddle. Ribeye, provolone, mushrooms and onions. Delicious!

"Tacos in a bag" Personal size bag of Fritos or Nacho Doritos (crunched up!)
Add cooked ground beef, beans (Black or refried)
Shredded Lettuce, Diced Tomatoes, salsa, Sour cream directly into the bag.
Then eat with a fork or spoon. We do it every trip.

Two cans of chili without beans and a big bag of Fritos and a cold night on Pecos Baldy in beautiful New Mexico is just perfect and not a car for thirty miles!

We loved pasta night because we slept so warm, not so much on rice night. It took a couple of trips trips to figure it out.

When I was younger, Dinty Moore Beef stew was my go to, now that I am older, rib eye steak and baked potato cooked over the camp fire is my goto.

Oh Man I totally forgot about that it was a great meal with buddies!!

I cook at home, all the time… so when I am out camping I do not cook. - drink yes… (Gin and Tonic, oh yeah!)
Mountain House - Spaghetti
Backpacker Pantry - Pad Thai with Chicken
Peak Refuel - Chicken Teriyaki and Rice

And yes Pop-Tarts! My camping indulgence !

As many tortilla based meals as we can figure out. Some kind of tacos, fajitas, or quesadillas are a staple. Sometimes breakfast burritos with eggs, sausage, and cheese too. Tortillas make for easy cleanup, and fare better in the food box than bread or buns.
