WOW! Thats my first reaction on all the information here, but can I find what I'm looking for ...?

As a Dutch starter, coming from the lowest country in the world, I can only go up. (In The Netherlands 26% is below sealevel and the area I live is almost 7 meters below sea level)

What am I doing here? While the kids are getting older, we are thinking about what we like most. I can work location independent and we like to travel. Past few years we used my BMW xDrive diesel to find nice spots, but always dependent on appartments or other places. Also we could not come to all the places because of the car limitations. We thought about a camper, but that has its limits in mobility, we don't like a caravan. So the interest goes in the direction of (building) an overlander.

At this stage my interest goes out to meeting people, seeing and experiencing different setups, options, destinations. Can I rent before buy as an example. I seems that most of the forum and events are US oriented, so i'm eager to know if there is a community in The Netherlands. I saw some posts about belgium and a spring event in germany.

So keen to meet and learn and see what the future brings!
But mostly interested in the gear before we start to travel (unless you think different :-)

Feel free to leave starter tips and tricks!

Hi Wouter,

Welcome to Overland Bound!

Look around and you will find plenty of good information around overlanding here. For beginners the Beginner Q&A is helpful and all the other Q&As also.

There are quite some members in Europe and also in the Netherlands. Our annual Spring Meetup, you found in the forums was already, but we still have some meetups planned for this year and this in different regions. Have a look at the Rally Points, there you can filter by OB regions, The Netherlands belongs to MidEurope. Here you can find the upcoming MidEurope meetups and events. And if you have fun organizing an event yourself go for it, we are always happy about it.

Next weekend @XC70_OVERLANDER organizes another great meetup in northern Germany, in September there is the HAM radio event near Frankfurt where a few members will also be and in October is the OTTO expo where we will meet again with some members. Just to name a few, there are more. Just have a look.

Even if an event takes place in Germany, for example, there are often members from other countries there, so that you can organize a joint journey. Check out the meetup for OTTO in October, there you will see plenty of rigs and get ideas for you own built. Another good way to get to know other members is our virtual campfire, which will start again in the fall.

Also check out the Europe subforums. There you will find a lot about overlanding in Europe and some active members from Europe. You can also have a look at the OB Map, we have already collected many POIs for Europe and there are more and more.

If you have any questions or need help, please get in touch, I'm happy to help.

Greetings from Germany,
Bjoern

Hi all,

My name is Ray Kuhn. See below for pics of my rig. I drive a 2023 Bronco Badlands dragging a fully custom built trailer. Currently located in Central Oregon. I have a ton of experience with camping and being in the outdoors, and some minor experience with off road travel. As far as Overlanding... I watch a ton of YouTube, so that should make me an expert. :)

Hello!
Can't wait to get out and explore. My family is based in SW Idaho. It's me, the wife, 2 kids(8 and 10), and 2 dogs(labs).

I have been working on getting my truck ready for almost 2 years. I have a 1999 K2500(3/4 ton) Chevy Suburban. I plan to get out next year(was supposed to be this year but ended up getting sent overseas for the summer).

I bought the truck cheap, with a bad motor @ 210k miles. Got a good motor put in, freshened up all suspension/steering components, and put on some decent wheels and tires.

I bought a used but great shape Tuff Stuff Ranger(the OG not the newer 65" model). I intend for the wife and I to sleep up top, and the dogs/kids to sleep in the annex, or in the truck depending on how they feel.20211204_200013 small.jpg
