Not me, not @ $230.00. That's why I won't go to the Expo either. Too many promoters getting rich off the community. I'll stick to local club events that cost nothing other than the $10,000 it takes to build a rig.

I half way agree with you. I haven't been to the expos because they're so expensive, but I also like the idea of a bunch of Rovers getting together. There is a local club (Pacific Coast Rover Club), but they are a yearly membership for the small number of events they hold.

What do you think about the Northwest Overland Rally?

That's doable and reasonable both. I'm solo so for a four day event $100 is a fair price. The one day event for an an adult and one minor child of $55 is okay if you only have one child, but a high price for a single day. What if a guy had a wife and two kids, then it would be a fair price, but it won't happen.

The NWOR says $55 day pass for one adult with any number of kids under 18.

I must have miss read it, I thought it said one person not older than 18. You are right, I am wrong. So if wifey wants to go it is the $185 for 4 days. I wonder why they don't have a 2 person one day price ? If I was married I doubt I would pay the $185 fee or $230 at the gate price, that rubs me the wrong way. Oops I think we are off OP topic, sorry OP.

How do you determine that it's the crank sensor ? Is that the thing on the rear of the engine on the drivers side ?

I have a scanner and it was crank sensor code

I’ve e just stumbled across that there was a Land Rover registry. we have a 2007 Lr3 HSE that we have just started overlanding in. We just got back from a 2 week 7000km adventure in Texas. We are blown away with the capability of the truck. All we ever did was air down the tires and press the little pedal.

Spark Plug, Wires, Coil, Valve Cover Gasket, Throttle body gasket, coolant throttle gasket, re-do all the wire looms. Fixed my cruise Control. Car idles so much better and runs smoother as well.

First time doing it and took my time, like 3 days. 2-4 hours a day.

If you have a lift on your truck, air it down. Your back will thank you later.

Retape my wires that was cracking under the manifold. Found the issue of my cruise control for over a year. It was just a simple damn air hose that cracked.

It's fairly easy but it just takes time. Hardest was probably the stupid bolt on the coolant lines that goes on the head.

A lot of the designs in this truck makes it a bit difficult and you end up having to the everything off because of it. Im not even sure if it's possible to take the spark plug wires from the back of the coil without taking the intake manifold!!!

That's a lot of work Al. Looks really nice and clean. I agree on tire air down but I have a step stool I use. I wish I had three so I could put them on each side and in front.

Even thought about building a three sided platform I could drive between or digging a pit about 12" deep to drive in to.

My cruise is out too. I'll check for your solution.

Here's my 07 Discovery 3 HSE that I picked up in 2018. Thanks to Land Rover I am now a fully seasoned DIY Mechanic!

All in all I am quite enjoying the experience of working on my own car and getting to know the ins and outs of it and doing my own maintenance and repairs is quite rewarding when you total up the money you've saved.

We should have been on the NC500 right now.....

I sort of came from a Toyota background but somehow fell in love with the LR Defenders and now have an old version(no electronics) and a newer version(Tdci Diesel)

Here's my 1995 LR Defender 110 Wgn. It's been a bit of a mission to get it up to scratch but with the help of a fellow Defender Nut, we have managed to make it into a Overland Touring vehicle. This is its 1st real test up into the High Country of Victoria:

I then converted it so I could sleep in the back and do more solo trips during my days off midweek:

Then I ended up buying a later model Defender - a 2010 model with a more modern interior; better A/C and a more powerful Diesel engine. This is now our family remote Touring vehicle:

I also have one of the old Discovery-1 vehicles but will be selling it in the near future...

but... here's something we came across in the desert last year - one ultimate touring rig: an ex-Australian Army Perentie 6x6 Ambulance - if only I could get one of these...

1967 series IIA 109. I got Pokey about 10 yrs ago and he’s not running right now. Need new brakes. No one sells 11 inch drums. Does anyone know of a disk brake conversion all around that’s reasonable in price?

Since everything is black I cant tell from the picture. That is a perfect rack for the LRD2. Mine was hand made in Africa for Safari hunting by a US diplomate and brought back to the USA.

Not completely sure but I believe the Discovery series has the same frame and suspension as yours. They have disk brakes all around.
I would bet that the people at Lucky8 could help you out.

No lift yet and not so sure I will. Tires are 265/70-16’s and yes, I had to cut the grill for the winch. The safari rack I have is actually a D1 version as its about 2 inches too short at the back. The uninitiated would not know the difference though. The next project for mine is a drawer system / sleeping platform and some rock sliders. I plan to pull this landy behind my RV in the coming years as we work / explore the south west of the US. Once equipped and modded the way I want, I’ll be out in the wilderness more than in the campgrounds in the RV. Hopefully!

That sounds good to me. What kind of winch do you have and what size ? Since you are an all wheel drive how will you haul it. I doubt you will want to disconnect the drive shaft on the rear wheels if you are on a tow dolly. Pulling flat is to much wear on everything and I'm not sure a LRD can be towed flat. I think a trailer may be the only way to haul behind an RV. I'm just finishing my rig up for the back roads. I cant do the work myself because I cant walk or stand anymore for more than a few minutes and I have to hire someone to do everything for me. Cant get anyone right now so maybe by mid summer I will be out there too. I have a 13' old 1976 Scamp for my RV. Not fancy but I'm not very fancy either. Happy trails #3382, maybe we will cross trails somewhere.

Hey Jin,

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I plan to flat tow. I have been doing so for a couple years now with no issues.
I thought about selling the LR and getting an aluminum trailer to haul one of our Subaru Foresters on. But,I’d have to store it somewhere when we camped and the car and trailer combo weigh as much as the LR.
The Subby is not as capable or roomy as the LR, so this is the plan I am working to execute.
BTW, New Mexico is one of our target states when we go full time. I’ve spent a little time there. ABQ, Sante Fe, Taos, Madrid, etc. I LOVE it there!
