Fairly accessible. I can still get a lot of parts off Rock Auto in a few days. Lots of parts are still made in India and the Philippines. Both those countries had huge stocks of JEEPs post-war and pretty strong communities sprung up around that, which lead to industry in those areas catering...
Oh boy, let me tell you a little story of my recent view of how useless the USPS is. I moved from one location to another. The new location is 15 minutes away from the old one and in the same zip code, and both addresses use the same local facility to distribute mail. I had a 600 dollar piece...
So the original canister style filter housing that I had on my CJ2A when I got it always leaked, no matter what I used to try to seal it the exit line at the bottom would leak, I think there are cracks around the port that I can't see with my naked eye.
I finally got tired of cleaning up oil...
They're a joy to work on for sure. Nice and easy. My suggestion to make life easier and cut back on gremlins. Invest in a new wiring harness. Don't spend money on REpro gauges except maybe a speedo, the other gauges will still look nice if you go with the basic low cost bosch gauges and will...
They aren't getting any cheaper. I got this one in running condition but with a blown head gasket for 2000. Here's what it looked like when I towed it home.
Took it out for a 60 mile drive today to shake out more bugs and check out some rental properties. Ran great, never got even a little warm. Cruises great at 45. Floorboards get a little warm. The transmission breather is apparently missing the cap so it blew enough oil out to seep out from...
This is a non issue. I've run tons of trails on 28-29s and a front lunchbox locker, and the front locker probably wasn't even needed, but I like having it, so I can be more deliberate with my line selection. Folks put too much stock in mods, when a driver mod is really what's needed in most cases.
I downloaded his KMZ file and put it into GAIA. Looks like these might be the coordinates of the Midnight Meadow as it's very close to "Midnight Mine".

A few days ago I wrapped up the valve adjustment on the CJ2A first thing in the morning. Set the intake valves to .014 and exhaust valves to .016, some of them were way loose, the engine is sewing machine quite/smooth now.
Then I got this dropped off to work on for a friend. 1956 CJ5. He ust...
Well this will be my experimental trip with doing that then, No 3rd brakelight on mine andmy tires are much smaller so my results may vary. Worst case I can wedge it in the back of the YJ corner to corner with the passenger seat ran forward, good thing my passenger is short. I also use...
Digging up an old thread, but I'm wanting to do this in my YJ as well. Any issues with "rocking" on top of the tire? It also fits really well across my front bumper but blocks the blinkers and half the grille opening.
Great area, last time I camped up there I didn't have GAIA so never saved any of the sites I found. I do have this one saved. You had to do a steep climb to get to the top but we did it, barely, in a Ford Escape lol. 64 Doens't have a ton of dispersed options and the last time I was up there...
Why would they, they have pretty much the entire public safety market cornered. Not even sure why they would bother to show up at Overland events. Our Fire Department is 100% Motorola, we're talking 66 handheld radios just for operations, not counting training department and any spares we...
Putting the little CJ to work on some chores. Drove it to LOWES and picked up 400lbs of soil, plus some plumbing parts for the YJ's onboard water system, then by the local corn free gas dealer for 15 gallons (90 lbs) of regular. Plus toting my 215lb self around.
That's about 95lbs short of...
Been busy with the CJ2. Other than some maintenance items with the XJ and YJ most of my focus the last week as been on the CJ2 since I finally got my engine back from the shop.
CJ2A YT SHORT
Given the age on that Explorer you're probably good with some basic GL5 gear lube, check your manual to be sure. If you don' t have the manual anymore you can probably find the owners manual or even the factory service manual on line in PDF format. Brand doesn't really mean much as long as it...
I usually take time to check various state websites, many times they will send you free maps, and if you are traveling via interstate many welcome centers have free maps. They're not usually off-road oriented maps, but they can help you navigate on a macro scale. I'm not going to invest a lot...
Someone gathered a bunch of data on this one time. Basically it came down to having something that goes bang is usually enough. In 123 reported cases of a handgun being discharged to ward off or kill a bear, a handgun was effective 98 percent of the time (eithe the bear was killed or it stopped...
It's a ridiculous "overland" antenna. Midland has been pushing them a lot over the last 6 months or so. You could buy a pile of regular GMRS antennas for what those cost and probably never use even a few of them in your lifetime. Somehow, putting a GMRS antenna in a piece of fiberglass pipe...
